SA fans will have to set alarm clocks to catch NZ Super Rugby derbies

The news that Super Rugby - or at least some form of it - will resume in New Zealand next month is certainly good news for the global sporting community.

It was announced on Monday that a five-team New Zealand franchise tournament, called Super Rugby Aotearoa, will get underway on Saturday, 13 June

With the 2020 Super Rugby tournament having been suspended after seven rounds of fixtures - the last of which took place all the way back on 13 March - it has been a long three months for fans of the sport in the southern hemisphere as the coronavirus crisis has brought global sport to a halt.

New Zealand, though, has flattened the curve enough for professional sport to resume.

But, will South Africans be able to watch that tournament on television?

While nothing has been confirmed, early indications are that thanks to their excellent relationship with Sky Sport NZ, local broadcaster SuperSport is confident those matches will be screened LIVE for its subscribers to follow.

The 'bad' news, though, is that South African fans will have to wake up earlier than usual if they want to get their dose of live rugger.

There are 10 rounds of fixtures scheduled, with two matches taking place in each weekend - one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

The Saturday matches all kick off at 07:05 (SA time), while the Sunday matches get underway at 05:05 (SA time).

Be sure to set those alarm clocks!
