Spike in coronavirus cases in Maharashtra Police: 221 cases in 24 hours take count past 1,000

Maharashtra police have seen 221 new cases of novel coronavirus in 24 hours, which has taken the total count in the department above 1,000.

More than 221 new cases in the last 24 hours have taken the number of infections in the Maharashtra Police past the 1,000-mark on Monday. The total count of 1,007 cases in Maharashtra Police includes 901 policemen and 106 police officers.

Mumbai Police continues to be the worst-hit with nearly 400 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the department. As of Monday morning, the total cases in Mumbai Police stood at 394.

So far, total seven deaths due to coronavirus have been recorded in Maharashtra police. These include four from Mumbai and one each from Pune, Solapur and Nashik rural. A total of 113 cops have, meanwhile, recovered till now.

Maharashtra saw a sharp spike in coronavirus cases on Sunday. Maharashtra reported 1,278 new cases of coronavirus and 53 deaths, 19 Mumbai, taking the total case count to 22,171 and the number of fatalities to 832.

Of the 53 deaths, 19 were reported from Mumbai, 14 from Malegaon in Nashik district, five each from Pune and Jalgaon, two in Dhule, one each from Dhule rural, Pimpri Chinchwad, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Nandurbar, Solapur and Vasai-Virar.

Of the total 22,171 coronavirus positive cases and 832 deaths so far, Mumbai accounts for 13,739 cases and 508 fatalities. While 2.4 lakh people are placed under home quarantine, 14,465 are under institutional quarantine.
