Passenger rail services to resume on Tuesday; Bengaluru-Delhi tickets sold off in 30 minutes

BENGALURU: The tickets for Bengaluru-New Delhi AC superfast train scheduled for Tuesday were sold out in 30 minutes after the railways began online booking at 7.30pm on Monday. South Western Railway will operate daily trains between these cities from Tuesday.
IRCTC was to start booking at 4pm on Monday but there was a delay in entering data on the website. Many people could not book as the server was down due to heavy demand.
“Passengers must reach the station 90 minutes in advance to undergo thermal screening. They can carry food (dry and ready-to-eat) and drinking water. No blankets, linen and curtains will be provided inside the train,” SWR chief public relations officer E Vijaya said.
She said provision for pre-paid meal booking and e-catering will be disabled. IRCTC will make provision for limited eatables and packaged water on payment basis. Passengers may carry fewer luggage as porter facility may not be available,” she added.
An official said passengers must wear face covers/masks and observe social distancing. Only those passengers as well as driver of the vehicle with confirmed e-tickets will be allowed to enter the station. All passengers will be screened and only asymptomatic people are allowed to board the train.
Train no.02691 KSR Bengaluru City-New Delhi Superfast AC Express will leave the city station daily at 8.30pm and reach New Delhi at 5.55am on third day. Train No. 02692 New Delhi – KSR Bengaluru Superfast AC Express Special will depart from New Delhi at 9.15pm every day and arrive at Bengaluru at 6.40am on third day. The 20 LHB-coach train will have stoppages at Anantapur, Guntakal, Secunderabad, Nagpur, Bhopal and Jhansi. Each train will carry 1,076 people.
Passengers must use own vehicles
With no Metro, BMTC, cabs and autorickshaw services available, passengers will have to rely on their vehicles to reach the station. BMTC is operating only emergency and chartered services. “Normal bus services are not allowed since Bengaluru falls under red zone” said a senior BMTC official. D Roopa, IGP, railways, said passengers will have to use their personal vehicles to reach the station as public transport will not be there. “Drivers must leave the premises immediately. Passengers should carry masks, eatables, water, sanitisers and gloves for the two-day journey. Bengaluru being in red zone, there will be no snacks vendors,” she said. Officials said passengers can come in their own vehicles provided they have a confirmed train ticket to get into the station.
