BERHAMPUR: A postgraduate student of the gynaecology and obstetrics department had his ear bitten off by a person whom he refused to grant entry into the labour room at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here on Sunday. The injured doctor was identified as Shakil Khan.
The accused, Tarani Prasad Mohapatra (32) of Tara Tarini Chhaka, was arrested under various sections of the IPC and the Epidemic Disease Ordinance, 2020, said SP (Berhampur) Pinak Mishra. "We will seek permission to book him under the National Security Act as well," he added.
Mishra said Mohapatra was part of a group of seven or eight male attendants of a patient, which wanted entry into the labour room. First rebuffed by the security guard, and then by Khan, the accused turned angry and bit off the doctor's ear.
"We came to know that his relative was admitted in the ward. Though some female attendants were present in the labour room, the accused wanted to enter the prohibited area," Mishra said.
