Maharashtra Council polls: Uddhav Thackeray files papers, has assets worth Rs 143.26 crore

Uddhav is the first Shiv Sena chief and second Thackeray, after his son Aaditya, to contest elections.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday filed his nomination papers for the May 21 Legislative Council elections, declaring assets totalling Rs 143.26 crore. Uddhav is the first Shiv Sena chief and second Thackeray, after his son Aaditya, to contest elections.

Monday was the last day to file nominations for election to nine seats of the Legislative Council. Apart from Uddhav, Sena’s Neelam Gorhe, NCP’s Shashikant Shinde and Amol Mitkari and Congress’ Rajesh Rathod filed the nominations.

As per the affidavit, Uddhav, along with his wife Rashmi Thackeray, has movable assets worth Rs 61.89 crore. He has a total of Rs 2.05 lakh cash in hand. Uddhav, who has been seen driving a high-end vehicle, does not own a car as per the affidavit

The CM and his wife also own jewellery worth over Rs 2.10 crore. Uddhav personally owns 616 gm of gold bars or coins valued at Rs 27.41 lakh and diamonds worth Rs 20 lakh. His wife’s gold holdings are only 70 gm, valued at Rs 2.87 lakh but she owns diamonds worth Rs 1.32 crore.

The couple own immovable assets valued at Rs 81.37 crore. This includes agricultural land in Raigad district and non-agricultural land at Murshet in Ahmednagar. They also own two residential properties at Bandra (East) in Mumbai, spread over 49,00 sq ft and one in Bandra (West), spread over 14,000 sq ft – valued at Rs 53.02 crore as per the exisitng market rates. Further, they also own a commericial shop on Ghodbunder Road in Thane.

While Uddhav has liabilities worth Rs 4.06 crore, for Rashmi, it is Rs 11.44 crore. In all, Uddhav has 23 criminal cases registered against him.

Apart from the candidates named by their parties, NCP’s Kiran Pawaskar and Shivajirao Garje; BJP’s Sandeep Lele and Ramesh Karad; and Shehbaz Rathod filed nomination as independent. Sources said these are dummy candidates and would withdraw their nominations on Thursday – the last day to withdraw nominations.

In that case, all four candidates – two each from Sena and NCP – and one Congress candidate who filed nomination on Monday, are set to be elected unopposed to the Council along with four BJP nominees.
