PUNE: Students of autonomous colleges and private universities are in a fix as their institutes have decided to continue with online examinations. However, autonomous institutes and private universities have said that the exams are either on hold or optional for students.

A student from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT) said, “The problem is that 65% of the syllabus was completed via online classes and assignment submission but most of us showed up just for attendance. Since 90% of the students are hostelites, we didn’t carry our notes with us when we left for home.”

RM Jalnekar, director of VIT, said, “We have put our exams on hold. We sought feedback from students and 75% of them said they would like to continue with the exam schedule because it would not hamper their academic progress. We are seeking guidance on how to go about the exam schedule.”

Mangesh Karad, executive president of MIT ADT University said that they have given students an option to either appear for the exam now or take it in November at the end of the next semester. “Students who wish to appear for exams now can do it online. They can book a slot when the question paper will be uploaded on the internal learning management system. Students can write the answers on paper and upload it using a mobile scanner,” explained Karad.
