A man jailed for his part in stealing farm machinery worth more than £100,000 has been ordered to repay just a small fraction of that amount.

Shane Jones was jailed for 28 months earlier this year after admitting a charge of conspiracy to steal.

A judge at Caernarfon Crown Court said Jones, and two other men, were involved in the plot.

At a hearing before the same court today the 31-year-old, of Brynteg near Wrexham was said to have had a benefit of £39,423 from the offending.

Prosecuting counsel John Philpotts said a financial investigation had found Jones had assets of £1,000 which could be confiscated.

The barrister said this amounted to cash seized and held by police.

There was no objection by Jones' lawyer to the cash being forfeited and Judge Huw Rees said the money should be paid within seven days or a one month prison sentence would have to be served.

The judge heard the financial investigations into the two other men, Richard Evans, 43, of Southsea, Wrexham and John Price, 29, of Lodge Road, Telford, were not agreed.

The matter was adjourned for a further hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court in October.

After admitting his part in the offences, said to have taken place between October 2017 and November 2018, Evans, was jailed for 39 months and Price for two years.

None of the trio were present for the hearing which was held on Skype because of the coronavirus pandemic.
