A case for saris and flared kurta sets
Kriti Sanon’s sartorial choices are as fuss-free as they are of-the-moment; always accessorised by her unassuming demeanour and mega-watt smile. That enviable frame only furthers her cause. When it comes to her traditional picks, Sanon has an evident penchant for classic silhouettes refurbished with modern flair.
Topping her list of go-tos is the sari, and with good reason. Though the actor prefers this timeless style in contemporary renditions by way of the drape or the blouse. Off-shoulder blouses are her favourite, as seen in both her Manish Malhotra saris—a sheer ivory sheer number with multi-coloured embroidery and a belted canary yellow pick she wore with emerald jewellery. There was also the time when she modernised her fuchsia pink Ekaya Benarasi drape with a strapless back-tie bandeau blouse. If you’re looking for something more au courant, then there is her Ridhi Mehra draped jumpsuit sari with a one-shoulder blouse, a white and blush blue paisley print sari with a fringe border, and a ruffled Arpita Mehta sari. Lehengas though, are best left untampered in her stylebook. Don’t believe us? Simply take a look at her ivory and gold Shantanu & Nikhil scallop-hem lehenga set or the peplum blouse and skirt by Jayanti Reddy.
When it comes to kurtas and capes, Sanon is all about the drama. Take for instance the print-on-print flared jacket and tiered sharara set from Ridhima Bhasin that she wore with chunky tribal jewellery. Or the Sukriti & Aakriti empire-waist short kurta and gharara set and printed Anita Dongre calf-grazing anarkali and churidar spotted on her. Sanon’s yellow and pink tie-dye Akanksha Gajria swing short kurta and palazzo set is all about easy glamour. Brownie points for the addition of a headband to give the look a girly-girl update.
While Sanon is not often seen in heritage weaves, she is a chikankari fan girl when it comes to her off-duty wardrobe. Her army of pared-down Lucknowi kurta sets in dusty pink, lime green and black are proof.
