A popular range of juice drinks sold at Coles, Woolworths and IGA stores across Australia have been recalled after they were found to be contaminated. 

The recall on the Pure Tassie - Organic Pure Apple juice range was sent out on Saturday after it was discovered the juice was contaminated with mycotoxin patulin.

The products have been available for sale at various Coles, Woolworths, IGA and independent stores in NSW, QLD, VIC, TAS, SA and WA. 

Customers who have bought the juices are being urged to return them to the store they bought it from for a full refund.

CONTAMINATED JUICE

Apple and Blackcurrant 1.5L, all best before dates up to and including 18/11/20

Mycotoxin patulin is a toxic fungus most commonly found in rotten apples and studies have found consumption of the fungus can cause  may cause severe damage to vital organs like the liver and kidney. 

Juicy Isle took to its social media pages to share a statement regarding the product recalls. 

'We will vastly expand our investigation and testing regime to provide certainty to our customers that Pure Tassie juice does not have elevated levels of patulin,' Juicy Isle CEO Paul Mealor said.

'This news has hit us hard. We see our customers as family, and we will ensure they can drink our organic juice safely and confidently.

'The world is going through many ‘never look back’ moments, and this is another one for us.'

Mr Mealor said the company had already used the shock of the recall to update their product testing.

'We have already adopted new and rigorous testing of all apple juice production beyond current Australian industry standards,' he said.

'All of us at Juicy Isle, and our colleagues across the industry, see this as a catalyst - an opportunity to work harder, to be inventive, and to return to the market with the safest, freshest, most delicious juice you can buy.'
