KURUKSHETRA: In the development of a case of beadbi (sacrilege) of Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Gobind Nagar village near Dera Fateh Singh in Pehowa, the Kurukshetra police have been instructed to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) by Haryana minister of sports and youth affairs also Pehowa MLA, Sandeep Singh on Sunday.
On Sunday, minister Sandeep Singh held a meeting with the Sikh sangat at Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Gobind Nagar village and ensured them of taking strict action against the culprits behind this crime.
Sandeep Singh said, “Instructions have been given to Kurukshetra police officials to constitute an SIT to investigate this serious matter. The SIT has been instructed to trace the culprits at the earliest and the sangat has been asked to cooperate with the investigating teams. It will be taken care that no innocent gets penalized in this case. Instructions have been issued that if villagers raise doubt on any person, the same should be interrogated thoroughly.”
Kurukshetra superintendent of police (SP) Astha Modi said, "An SIT has been constituted to investigate this sacrilege case under the supervision of Pehowa DSP Dheeraj Kumar, and Kurukshetra CIA-II SHO inspector Gurwinder Singh will be the in-charge of this team. Further investigation has been initiated."
Sandeep said, “Sikhs all over the world are number one in doing selfless service while walking on the path of Gurus and during the lockdown, the community has provided food to lakhs of people in the world. The sangat has been ensured that once the culprits are identified, they will be given strict punishment as per law.”
It is notable that, as per the complaint received by the police, on May 6 evening, some miscreants tore holy pages of Guru Granth Sahib from 5 to 19; 200 to 208, and 599 at the said gurdwara in Pehowa village and left the torn bir below the palanquin.
On May 8, after receiving the information, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) officials including Haryana Sikh Mission in-charge Mangpreet Singh and Dharam Prachar Committee member Tajinderpal Singh Dhillon visited gurdwara and got a case registered in this matter.
On May 8, the Kurukshetra police on the complaint of Karanjit Singh of Gobind Nagar village registered a case under Section 295 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Pehowa police station.
