CHENNAI: J Radhakrishnan, who is the special officer for Covid-19 operations in Chennai, on Sunday said the number of positive cases in the city is expected to increase in the next five to six days but it need not be a cause of concern.
“As the number of cases in Chennai has been high, it should be contextualized with the population and the rate of testing in the city. Currently, number of tests conducted in Chennai is the highest in the country,” he said.
Radhakrishnan said people need not worry about the increasing number of cases. “For the last 10 days, we have been conducting targeted testing. We have traced contacts and are testing at a rate of 3,500 people per day,” he added.
Stating that the virus is an invisible enemy, the official encouraged people to support the authorities by following social distancing and asked them to wear masks. “We may get to a stage in the near future, where if people fail to follow social distancing and if they don't wear masks, they might be fined. We advise people not to step out of their homes without wearing masks,” he said.
