CHANDIGARH: At a time when it has failed to stop novel coronavirus from spreading in Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, the UT administration has decided not to make any changes in its strategy.
“There will be no major change in the strategy. We will continue with extensive testing, screening and contact tracing in Bapu Dham. The affected area will continue to be a containment zone, and other part buffer zone, with no entry-exit from the colony, except for essential services workers,” said UT adviser Manoj Parida.
The only difference will be that the administration has decided to provide free dry ration to around 12,000 families residing in Banu Dham, including containment and buffer zones. The distribution will start from Monday, Parida said.
Sources said the UT is contemplating to shift more people from Bapu Dham containment zone to institutional quarantine facilities like community centres. The final decision will be taken by UT administrator V P Singh Badnore on Monday.
The administration’s failure to ensure social distancing while distributing vegetables and milk, delay in shifting ‘high risk’ people from containment zone to institutional quarantine facility and non-cooperative behaviour of local residents are being cited as the reasons behind the spread of the virus in the colony.
