UP govt releases academic calendar 2020-21 for universities, colleges in UP

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday released the academic calendar 2020-21 for the state universities and their associated colleges. Accordingly, classes for all students enrolled in various universities of the state, except fresh admissions (first year students) to begin from July 6. Universities have been asked to finish admissions by August 14. Classes of first year students to commence from August 17.
Principal secretary (higher education), Monika S Garg in an order stated that universities to cut down on winter holidays and other off days in order to get more teaching days ensuring timely completion of syllabus. In addition, teachers to increase the number of teaching hours.
Universities and colleges in districts lying under green zone, have also been asked to begin evaluation of answer copies immediately. Answer scripts kept in districts identified under the red and orange zones can be brought to green zone with due discussion from district administration, reads the order.
Garg has sought for a work plan from all universities latest till May 12 on possible transportation of answer copies from red and orange zones to green zones and to conduct pending examinations. She has also suggested universities to increase the honorarium for evaluation from existing Rs 40,000 to rs 60,000 only for this year.
Considering the Covid-19 crisis, the government has also de-centralised the evaluation work. Universities have been directed to opt for de-centralisation for correction of answer copies taking in stock the available resources.
