Coronavirus: What do the new lockdown rules say?

Some garden centres will be allowed to reopen in Wales from Monday as coronavirus lockdown levels are eased "modestly".

Although lockdown measures are extended by the Welsh government, rules on how many times you can exercise have been relaxed - but the advice is stay local.

Things haven't changed for schools being shut, travelling when "absolutely necessary", people working from home when they can and social distancing.

The changes come into effect on Monday.

There will another review on 28 May.

What and why are regulations being modified?

Wales' First Minister Mark Drakeford said "modest adjustments make a difference in people's lives" so the Welsh Government has made only slight amendments.

Can I exercise more?

The exercise rules will been relaxed so you can now go outside more than once a day but the government have told people must "stay local".

"This means that any exercise should start and end at home and not involve going a significant distance from home," said Mr Drakeford.

"As we learn more about coronavirus, the evidence shows that the risk of infection is reduced outdoors."

Can I exercise with a friend?

You should be alone, or with people from your household - or with carers if necessary. It should usually be only walking, running and cycling. Risky exercise is ruled out.

Some people with health or mobility issues may not be able to exercise directly outside their homes. They may drive to the nearest convenient spot.

What are the rules about shopping?

Essential shops remain open as they were before, but now garden centres can open from Monday "provided the two metre social distancing rules can be applied."

When does my local tip reopen?

It isn't clear. The Welsh Government has said councils can begin to plan to reopen them from Monday.

When can we send the kids safely back to school?

At the moment we don't know. No date has been set.

When can I visit family?

As far as going to see your folks, kids or grandkids - again you'll have wait and see what the next Welsh Government review says.

Why, basically because ministers fear any easing of restrictions could cause a huge number of possibly avoidable deaths.

Mr Drakeford said just a small increase in the rate of transmission of the coronavirus - the so-called 'R' number - would mean thousands more in hospital and as many as 7,200 deaths.

So far at least 1,285 deaths involving Covid-19 have been registered in Wales - but that number is expected to be higher.

What if I'm pregnant or over 70?

If you're over 70, pregnant or have an underlying health condition, then you're advised to stay at home and "take extra care to protect yourself" for the foreseeable future.

There are 120,000 people in Wales in a so-called shielding group and Mr Drakeford said: "It is really important this group continues to follow the shielding advice."

What if I've got a health condition?

People who are more vulnerable to getting coronavirus, like those with reduced immunity, some cancers, patients with renal dialysis are on the shielding list.

People in this list can have additional help like weekly free food boxes and priority delivery slots at supermarkets.

How far can I cycle?

Cyclists cannot travel no farther than a "reasonable walking distance from home" as the guidance says an accident a long way from home could put more pressure on the NHS.

They should cycle alone, or with people from their home. They are expected to stick to routes they know and take care of walkers, runners or other cyclists. They should stay two metres apart and stop to let people go by.

How far can I drive?

Rules state people should not drive to exercise unless absolutely necessary.

Can I visit my Welsh second home?

Second home owners cannot live in their second home - they must live in their normal residence. The rule is meant to protect the smaller NHS hospitals in areas where most Welsh boltholes are situated.

Can I stay out for a bit on my walk?

Sorry but picnics are banned - as is sitting for a "prolonged period" on benches.
