50 days after two Covid-19 cases, Noida export unit ready to restart work

NOIDA: The dedicated export-oriented house located in Sector 80 — where two confirmed Covid-19 cases had been detected — is all geared up to resume work. More than 50 days back, the unit, with 718 staff, had to shut down abruptly after its general manager who returned from Italy tested positive.
While the GM, a Delhi resident, stopped coming to work after testing positive on March 11, Sibrama Newage closed down the next day. Few days later, another employee, a Noida resident, also tested positive, becoming the second case in the city.
CEO of the export house, Rajiv Marwah, said they had been waiting for the approval from the district administration to resume operations for the past four days. “We sought permission to reopen the unit with minimal staff. Our orders are getting cancelled and we need to start working as soon as possible,” he said. The company had applied over the dedicated portal set up by Gautam Budh Nagar administration to grant permissions to industrial units on May 4.
Permission for movement of 230 employees was also sought, who were required to give finishing touches to the readymade inventory of wrist watch straps and other leather accessories.
Both the employees have recovered. Pending orders have to be rushed to Japan, China, United States, France and Philippines, officials said.
