Maharashtra University final semester exams to be held; students in all previous semesters to be promoted

PUNE: Students in the last semester of graduate and postgraduate examinations will have to appear for the exam in July and students in previous semesters will be promoted based on the marks scored in the previous semester combined with grades of the ongoing semester. State minister of higher education Uday Samant, announced on Friday afternoon that exams will be conducted by the respective universities in the state by maintaining proper social distancing and taking all necessary precautions.


Samant said that if any student has failed in the gradation system, he/she will still be promoted but they will have to appear for the exam once the academic year begins. The schedule of exams for these students will be announced by the respective universities, said Samant. These exams will have to be conducted within 120 days of the beginning of the academic year. The same rule was applicable to students who were on Allowed To Keep Terms (ATKT) scheme.

The new academic year, as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines will begin from September 1. The undergraduate Common Entrance Test (CET) for engineering, pharmacy, architecture, agriculture, law, hotel management, and other professional courses will be held between July 1 to 12 while the postgraduate common entrance test will be held in the second half of July.


These exams will be held online at designated centres, said Samant. The expert committee set up by the education department was working out the feasibility of the online entrance tests and it would soon be announced.
