Centre must be transparent with coronavirus fight, work with states: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi has said the Centre has to be more transparent in its fight against coronavirus and work with the states as its partners.

Rahul Gandhi spoke to reporters in a video conference on Friday.

Rahul Gandhi has said the Modi government needs to be more transparent with its actions on coronavirus and make the state governments its partner in the fight against this pandemic.

Speaking to a group of reporters in a video conference, Rahul Gandhi said the Centre must decentralise its actions on fighting the coronavirus and involve the states in its decision-making.

Rahul Gandhi also said the lockdown is not an on/off switch and it is a transition which requires cooperation of all - Centre, states, district magistrates and the people of India.

The Congress leader called upon Prime Minister Modi to devolve power and take the states and district magistrates into confidence.

"We need to decentralise power in dealing with the virus. If we keep this fight only in PMO, we will lose. The PM must devolve power. If we centralise, there will be a calamity. PM has to trust chief ministers and chief ministers have to trust district magistrates," he said.

Rahul Gandhi also called upon the government to tell the people what criteria it would use to open the lockdown or continue it post May 17.

The Congress leader further said that the Centre must help the poor and migrant population financially and immediately transfer cash money into their bank accounts as this section of the population is the worst-affected.

Rahul Gandhi said, “We need to start our domestic economy soon, the more time we lose, the worse impact it will have.”

He also called for protecting the job creators of this country in order to save jobs and wages of people working in these jobs.
