A man driving a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette has been arrested and charged in Snohomish County, Washington after police spotted him doing 192 mph (309 km/h).

Taking to Twitter, Trooper H. Axtman from the Washington State Patrol says one of his colleagues spotted the sports car flying down US 2 at around 7:45 a.m. on Sunday. The road has a speed limit of 60 mph (96 km/h) where the Corvette drive was spotted.

Axtman added that the 31-year-old driver exited onto Washington State Route 9 before being pulled over.

At 7:45 this morning, Trooper Willard was monitoring traffic speed on US2 near SR9 when he observed a Corvette traveling 192MPH! The 31 year old Corvette driver exited to SR9 and was caught near 96th Dr Se. He was arrested for Reckless & DUI! #drivesober #yourWSP

The driver, who clearly didn’t understand the error of his ways, reportedly told the arresting officer that he was “on his way to breakfast.” That excuse didn’t fly with the officer and the man was charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Trooper Axtman confirmed to The Drive that the Corvette in question was a 2008 model but didn’t specify what variant it was. While it’s possible the 31-year-old was driving a modified base model Corvette, it is more likely they were behind the wheel of either a C6 Z06 or a ZR1, both of which could exceed 192 mph from the factory.

This speeding motorist is far from the only motorist to have been tempted to push their car to the limit thanks to near-empty roads because of the coronavirus. Last month, the California Highway Patrol said it issued 2,493 tickets for drivers doing more than 100 mph (160 km/h) in the four weeks since California’s stay-at-home order went into effect on March 19, up from the 1,335 of the same period last year.
