THANE: For the third time in a row, the city recorded highest one-day rise in the number of Covid-19 patients, with 64 positive cases detected on Thursday, taking the total to 560 patients.
It was seen that out of the 64 patients, over 54 per cent patients were residents of Lokmanya Nagar-Savarkar Nagar area. However, the civic authorities stated that citizens should not worry as these are not new cases but instead these were suspected patients and hence were in quarantine.
“Out of 64 patients around 35 patients that were detected were high risk contacts of the positive patients. These patients were in our quarantine facility at Bhayander Pada as a precautionary measure, they later came positive but are asymptomatic,” said Sandeep Malvi, deputy municipal commissioner, TMC.
Also, the cabinet minister’s wife who was detected positive last month was discharged.
“She did not have any symptoms of the virus but as she was a high risk contact of the minister we had tested her and she was detected positive. She was admitted for almost two weeks and when her tests came negative she was discharged on Monday,” added Malvi.
The civic records show that most number of the Covid-19 patients are from Lokmanya Nagar-Savarkar Nagar area with 141 people positive. While around 107 have recovered from the infection, so far the death toll is 20.
