Two arrested for ‘molesting’ Covid patient in hospital

Greater Noida: Two housekeeping staffers have been arrested for allegedly molesting a Covid-19 patient at Sharda Hospital in Knowledge Park 3.
According to the complaint, the alleged molestation took place around 3pm on Wednesday when the duo posed as doctors and went to the isolation ward where the woman had recently given birth to a boy.
The woman alleged that the two sought to check on her health and touched her inappropriately. They fled when she raised the alarm. The hospital management said the two had been sacked on Wednesday itself. The accused were identified as Lavkush, a sanitation worker, and Praveen, the laundry in-charge at the hospital. DCP (zone 3) Rajesh Kumar Singh said the woman’s husband informed police. He is admitted to a quarantine centre in Greater Noida.
“The duo tried to flee the hospital but were caught by other workers. A police team that reached soon questioned them. Later, they confessed to have committed the crime,” he added.
Samples of the two accused were taken for tests since the woman is Covid-19 positive. Both tested negative on Thursday. They have been remanded in judicial custody after an FIR was registered under Section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman to outrage her modesty) of the IPC. Singh said the woman had given birth to a boy on April 25, when doctors took her samples for tests.
She was sent to the isolation ward after testing positive on May 3 while her husband and brother-in-law were put in quarantine. The reports of the other three, including that of the newborn, are pending.
