When medical experts say liquor sales should be intelligently regulated, so that demand can be met and crowding avoided, governments should listen. Home delivery from shops and online purchases must be allowed immediately. It’s baffling why most states are dithering on this, since they need the revenue. And as the experts said, regulated liquor sales could have continued through the lockdown, and we wouldn’t have been seeing crowds, lathicharge and panicky open-then-shut orders.
:) I still can't, truly, understand what is there to discus in this?? Any "Legal commodity" can be sold and home delivered. That is the core principle. So devise the processes, "online as well as physical" processes to meet the legal requirements stringently and increase your sale. There is no reason to feel guilty or afraid. Those of you feel "guilty" must ask their "Elected Representatives" to "pass such laws and make the sale of alcoholic drinks Illegal". I will support (not necessarily drink :)) anything that is "Legal" and oppose anything that is "illegal" ... :) :) :)
Corona Virus Matter of Concern-- Despite reminders, Public safety is being ignored-- Super spreaders still do Business without hand gloves so Buyers ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have three times sent emails, informing super spreaders like vegetable vendors,Grocery stores, Milk suppliers, medical store etc spread Corona Virus, despite even date such super spreaders carry on their Business without hand Gloves so The public too do not wear Hand gloves. It is also reported by touching surfaces, Virus can get spread. However Mumbai metroRail Corporation has restarted their work, but I notice not a single laborer /Engineer had put on Hand gloves, despite they touch multiple surfaces Public Toilet/Urinals are not being regularly sanitized, so in Zopadpatti area, Bus stopsare not being sanitized so other public places like vegetable market, grocery stalls, even fogging do not take place regularlyIt is shocking, despite reminders such serious lapses continue. Where is public safety? What is the meaning of extending Lockdown? sorry state of affairC 33 Parvati Mansion Jagdip H Vaishnav214 D B MargMumbai 400007
I think there are more important things than liquor that need to be allowed with home delivery. We are living in a world of work from home which is dominated by electronics and electricity. So I request the Government to give priority to items like electric bulbs, fans, laptops, mobiles, computer and mobile spare parts, screwdrivers, spanners, hammers, nails, screws, drills, Gas lighters, pressure cooker accessories, knives, cutting boards, water filter cartridges, matchbox, cleaning tools, online transfer of gas connection, etc. This should be irrespective of all zones including Red and containment zones. There are people in these areas who might require these things.
Obviously liquor home delivery should be allowed. There won't be any long queues so it'll be good for lockdown and government. People will be happy and safe to get whatever they need at home. Win win situation
Indian govt should start facility of issuing liquor license online first which would prove eligibility of these indians and then they can allow online selling based these Genuine license holders who are uploading their license copy and check at the time of delivery as well.
ITS NO MORE A SIN PRODUCTS BUT GOOD N GENUINE STUFF MUST B PROVIDED BY THE GOVERNMENT....THERE ARE MANY CRIMES TAKING PLACE OTHERWISE ALSO.... IT A HUGE REVENUE FOR THE GOVERNMENT AND MAKE IT AVAILABLE ALL OVER INDIA....ATLEAST PEOPLE CONSUMERS FOR ILLEGAL HOOCHES WOULD GET BETTER STUFF....EVEN IN GUJRAT BARRING BAPOO ASHRAM IT MUST B EASILY AVAILABLE AS GUJRT IS THE HIGHEST PER CAPITA CONSUMER....
Home delivery is the best solution. Before lock down liquor shops were least populated than a chemist shop & hence there was no need to stop it.
Yes, it will generate much needed revenue for the governments.
ear good food, drink well, have lotsa sex with real women. love long- healthy in Indiað ®ð ³
alcohol is good fir health. make beer, vodka and rum-whiskey etc in Indiað ®ð ³
If one needs permits to drink, why on earth they opened and closed liquor shops in Mumbai. They could have even supplied online to permit holders and everything would be in black and white. Mohammed Bin Tughaq reborn.
excellent analysis.. Government should read this and change the policy accordingly.. it will be very helpful to economy as well as public mental health.
Tarun Banerjee did you advice to Mamta bano?
It is best to follow the liquor policy of the USA who have tried all variations of policy and have finally settled down. Beer is available in grocery stores just like soft drinks. Hard drinks are freely available in liquor stores. There is moderate excise and other taxes. It is affordable and freely available. The concept of sin tax is not there. In India where as the government imposes a heavy sin tax on this commodity, it makes it available round the year except on 4 national holidays! A peg before dinner is very healthy. Those who create nuisance after drinking, will create nuisance anyway, drink or no drink.
seems all the heroic services of doctors, para medical staff, policmen, asha and anganwadi staff for last 7 weeks or so gone to the wind by opening booze shops disregarding physical distance norms. There is a time to coperate, sacrifice and fighting.Grand indian Tamasha
Its absurd Dr. Nagpal says Alcohol is biological need. I believe people just need a stupid reason to drink . When you are happy you need to drink , when you are sad you need to drink. When it's hot you need to drink , when it's cold you need to drink , when it rains you need to drink. It's a lame excuse to not face reality but immerse yourself in alcohol. Pure destruction of thoughts this brain is capable of. You become a slave to thiese thoughts and then blame alcohol for all miseries in life.
excellent and it can happen in India only alcohol is more important than human lives
As usual Govt both Local - Chief Minister and Centre - Home ministers and their respective advisors Govt IAS babus failure. As simple job as home delivery was not allowed as these foolish advisors though we are safe, let country go to corona . It’s an Indian crab. When ruling party wants to work for good the entire opposition with its Baharat there Tukde gang and Azadi gang and some bollywood cheap artists who u have made famous start protest and in which foolish poor Indian protestors die.
REMOTELY P.S: for technical purposes direct lifting not possible
well written, I have advocated selling on line.
Food stores are closed but whiskey shops are opened. Cannot buy essentials like mobile phones/Laptop accessories to do essential work, only drink wine. Serpentile lines across streets containing beer/whiskey shop. As alcohol brings most revenues to govt. Seems like if everyone starts drinking GDP will double or tripple.
Amazon and others have been banned from selling non essentials primarily because of opposition from Traders and of course Guys like RaGa. Orders issued were reversed due to pressure exerted.
When mindless illiterates are our leader then opening liquor shop is not a surprise .
With Gujjus in the saddle they think what's good for Gujarat is good for others ....on the other hand freewheeling Goa was first state to be Covid-19 free and remains Green. No crowds at liquor vends in Goa
at least till the situation on Corona front comes under control Government should not open liquor shops. the opening of these shops is spelling doom on the lives of the addicted poor whose families find it difficult to cope with their finances despite the Government's alms to them.
They are drinking hand sanitizer and hooch. Your recommendation is the worst possible outcome for people Who consider a moderate consumption of alcohol an essential commodity. Prohibition always fails everywhere in the world and causes worse social disorders of other kinds
In Maharashtra, sale of alcohol is officially permit based and rationed. Had the govt thought about it, they could have opened the shops for valid permit holders only. This way they the queue of people and quantity of alcohol would have been contained.
Legalized corruption. The worst governance is when people are taught how to lie to obtain permits or buy alcohol for themselves and others
Most of the opinions expressed about drinking(rather, supporting it) are from those who are fairly well-off and afford buying branded drinks. They think it is an enjoyment in life. Many of the articles written in media are by those who regularly enjoy their Scotches and Vodkas in the evenings. But to know the havoc created due to drinking, one should go and interview the housewives and family members of addicted people. Addition drains the precious earnings, it creates unrest in the family, and it spoils the health. What more you need to keep a family perennially poor? Unfortunately, this is what some political parties in India want. The more is the number of people craving for liquor the more is the votes they can get. The only people who get benefitted by more and more liquor selling are politicians who control the liquor policies and liquor contractors and sellers.
Anything done in moderation is good for the health, mental and physical. Banning alcohol has never succeeded, rather it has opened doors for cheap spurious liquor which can result in deadly outcomes. Those who are most vulnerable to addiction need support systems to move them out of these zones. Saying it is a pass time of the well-off is a misnomer. Even a poor person has needs.
The people of Goa are having the last laugh. For years it was believed, filmed, propagated that goans are drunkards. Mr.Pedro could not do any work without his glass of whiskey or Feni! Today, its good to see the truth get unravelled. When shops closed in Goa, there was no chaos. When they reopened, no pushing, no lathi-charge, no serpentine queues. People calmly bought their stock and went home. Today in Goa the bars are shut, the Hotels shut, the discos, the shacks, everything. No hungama. Yes, people are worried, but many are adopting the farm way of life. This is what Goa was before Tourism. So its not difficult to survive. I hope our films learn from Covid times and the next time they show a drunkard, its not Mr Vaz, Mr. Lobo and such. Cheers to Goa! Viva Goa!
Cheers to possitive outlook Man

The administrative authorities lacked civic sense that help people than restrict them. Freedom cost is easy on mind than restriction loss. India is actually far away from real democracy. Lately even seen expression restriction in press, almost every political moves are becoming "classified". Rahul Bajaj's was forthright.
what you need is more civic sense in people who simply refuse to obey social distancing norms. The mentality of people remains the same irrespective of the social strata . They simply do not want to stand in an orderly queue . when authorities try to enforce policy throw stones and retaliate .
