The 37th annual U.S. National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is being celebrated from May 3-9. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, most destinations are avoiding travel and resorting to virtual celebrations. Annapolis and Anne Arundel County are using the designated week to recognise its residents’ businesses for their resiliency, selflessness, ingenuity, and determination in wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Gary Jobson, Chairman of the Board, Visit Annapolis and Anne Arundel County (VAAAC) said in a press statement that the region is a navy town and holds a ‘Don’t give up the ship’ vision. He said that friends and neighbors of the town are working together with elected officials and community leaders to help ensure no families and businesses are left behind in the face of the pandemic. He mentioned that the region is aiming to emerge from the global crisis stronger and better than ever before.

Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley further added that it is important to remind people during Travel and Tourism Week that Annapolis will continue to thrive after travel bans are lifted. He said that city has a long and rich history and serves as a one-of-a-kind vacation destination as the state capital and home to the U.S. Naval Academy. He mentioned that it is important to remember that the strength of the region lies in the people of Annapolis.

He also informed that people have been working tirelessly to help preserve, protect, and enhance the destination in order to strengthen it from the core. He mentioned that the town will be ready to welcome guests with wide arms when they are ready to travel once again. During the celebrations, VAAAC will be sharing stories of community collaboration every day through its social media channels. The organisation also invites individuals and other organisations to share their unique stories using the official hashtag.
