Govt school students to attend lectures through Doordarshan

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) signed a contract with Doordarshan Ranchi on Wednesday. As per the agreement, the public broadcaster will telecast programmes on education for government school students for a period of one month from Monday onwards. The JEPC has booked a daily slot of three hours, of which one hour will be dedicated to cover syllabus for Classes X-XII. A programme on adolescents and hygiene will be held for half an hour, whereas lectures and videos for students of Classes I to IX will be aired for the remaining one and a half hour.
Talking to TOI, the project director of JEPC, Uma Shankar Singh, said, “Most school students in the state lack access to fast internet connectivity. Hence we thought that airing study lectures, among others, on DD Ranchi would have a greater reach.”
The Jharkhand school education and literacy department had also launched an initiative named Jharkhand Digi SATH to provide online study materials to students, but only six lakhs out of the 47 lakh school students in the state had accessed the platform until last week.
Singh added, “Jharkhand Digi SATH programme had a limited reach as most students here do not have access to the internet.”
State education minister Jagarnath Mahto had also asked officials of his department to check if videos of class lectures could be aired on satellite television.
Many private schools are already uploading study materials on specific applications or videos of class lectures on platforms like YouTube.
