Representative imageTHANE: A 29-year-old man with the help of a Pakistani friend blackmailed his ex-girlfriend and demanded Rs 1 lakh in exchange of their intimate photos and videos, the accused was arrested by the Thane anti-extortion cell.
The police said that the accused is a BSC-IT graduate and resides at Kalher in Bhiwandi. He was in a relationship with the victim aged 29 years for two years. But a few months back, the accused and the victim parted ways and were not in contact with each other due to some issues.
It was between March 27 and May 4, the girl started getting calls from a Pakistani number, who threatened the girl. The caller told her that he is in possession of the photographs as well as videos of the victim and if Rs 1 lakh is not paid, he shall start sending the pictures to her relatives as well as friends and those who are connected with her, said a police officer.
During this time, she contacted the accused and asked her about the same, to which he said that all the pictures and videos were in a pen drive, which got lost in Kapurbawdi area and that he has reported this to the local police. But after a few days, that same Pakistani number started sending the pictures to her brother as well as one other person, subsequently, the girl got scared and registered a case with the Vartak Nagar police station, the officer informed TOI.
The anti-extortion cell summoned the accused for interrogation as the police felt that something is fishy. The accused initially took the sleuths for a ride but after a brief questioning confessed that it was through a Pakistani online friend he extorted his former girlfriend. “He had got in contact with a Pakistani named Mushraf and forwarded the photos and videos to him, gave her mobile number and told him to blackmail his former girl friend to avenge revenge,” said a police officer.
Police placed the accused under formal arrest and seized his mobile phone. He was handed over to the Vartak Nagar police station for the further investigation.
