The South Western Railway (SWR) has not finalised any train schedule yet from the Vasco railway station to transport stranded migrants in the state to their native places.

Speaking to this daily, station manager of Vasco railway station Ramdas Gudemane said, “We are waiting for instructions from our higher-ups. The state government will inform our nodal officer about the arrangements of the migrants who have applied to the concerned authorities for going back to their native places. We don’t have any record as of now as to how many migrants are stranded in Goa. The number of stranded migrants could be large.”

“The state government will decide on how many stranded people in Goa will be sent back to their home towns and accordingly based upon the lists, arrangement of trains will be made,” Gudemane said.

He said, “There will be no multiple points for ferrying the stranded migrants to their destinations because of the risk of red zones for COVID. Nobody will take risk while arranging special trains for the migrants but in case the state government provides a list of people, then the railway authorities may arrange trains to facilitate the travel of the stranded migrants, only to a specific point and not at multiple points,” Gudemane said.
