Coronavirus India Live Updates: INS Jalashwa, the Indian Navy's amphibious warship, has reached Maldives to bring back Indian citizens who have been stranded in the island nation. The warship was sent to Maldives capital Male by the Indian Navy as part of the first phase under operation "Samudra Setu" ( Sea Bridge). Apart from the three Navy ships, the Indian government has sent 64 repatriation flights for a week from May 7 as part of the massive evacuation plan to bring around 15,000 Indian nationals from 12 countries. The coronavirus cases in India crossed the 50,000-mark as the country registered 3561 new cases in 24 hours, taking the total to 52, 952 cases, including 1,783 deaths, according to the latest figures from the Union Health Ministry.
Delhi -- among the worst-hit states -- has confirmed over 5,000 coronavirus positive cases, Health Minister Satyendar Jain confirmed. "In Delhi, the situation is under control. There are 5,532 numbers of patients, who are getting treatment for the deadly coronavirus pandemic. Around 15 patients are on a ventilator," Mr Jain said while speaking to reporters. He said the doubling rate of coronavirus cases in the city is currently at 11 days.
Two weeks after Tripura was declared of the novel coronavirus, the Northeartern state witnessed a major spike in infections on Wedneaday after 62 people tested positive for the virus. All the cases have been linked to a battalion of the Border Security Force prompting the state government to ask the for an inquiry into the matter.
The Tamil Nadu government has prepared a list of of stranded people from Bihar and West Bengal and said they will be sent home by a special train in a day or two.
"We have gathered the particulars of all those hailing from Bihar and West Bengal including patients at CMC Vellore and migrant guests. They will be sent by a special train today or tomorrow," Mangat Ram Sharma, the nodal officer appointed by Tamil Nadu government to oversee the movement of persons stranded due to the lockdown to and from the States and Union Territories told PTI.

The Ministry of Defence on Thursday informed that the Armed Forces have readied 6 quarantine facilities that can accommodate up to 2,100 Indians, who are being evacuated from several countries across the world in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Civil Aviation, reported ANI. Amid coronavirus-triggerered restrictions across the globe, hundreds of Indians are stranded abroad. Ten more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddha Nagar adjoining Delhi, taking the total number of cases to 202 in the district on Thursday, reported ANI. "10 people tested positive in Gautam Buddha Nagar today. The total number of cases in the district is now at 202, including 93 active cases," said an official statement. According to data, 124 sample reports were collected today out of which 114 were found negative. A total of 3,854 samples have been collected so far. 2,998 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Uttar Pradesh with 60 deaths while the total count of patients in the country has risen to 52,952 including 1,783 deaths so far, according to the Union Health Ministry website.

Mumbai Police has converted unoccupied apartments, originally constructed for housing police personnel in the city, into a temporary COVID-19 hospital for the police, reported ANI. The temporary hospital in Mumbai's Kalina area will have all the necessary facilities for the treatment of coronavirus patients. Mumbai Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh visited the hospital today for an inspection. "This hospital was made with the help of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and some NGOs. Patients will be admitted to the hospital starting today evening. I am thankful to everyone for this," Mr Singh told ANI. Around 250 police personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 in Mumbai but no one's condition is critical, he said.

In his Buddha Purnima message on Thursday, the Dalai Lama said the world must focus on what unites it as "one human family" and meet challenges through a global, coordinated effort, reported PTI.
The Tibetan spiritual leader urged everyone to promote inter-religious understanding, underlining that all religions promote happiness of all people.
"Also, in this time of serious crisis confronting the world, when we face threats to our health and we feel saddened for the family and friends we have lost, we must focus on what unites us as members of one human family," he said in an apparent reference to the pandemic.
"Accordingly, we need to reach out to each other with compassion, for it is only by coming together in a coordinated, global effort that we will meet the unprecedented challenges we face," he said.

There has been a 40% increase in consumer expenditure on essential goods at kirana stores since the imposition of the countrywide lockdown, said a study by SnapBizz.
SnapBizz is a Bengaluru-based company which provides new-age solutions to convert the neighbourhood retail and grocery stores.
According to the report, there was a major spike in sales in Mid-March as an indication of panic buying that took place followed by a low spell till Easter weekend, post which, sales improved, reported ANI.

Coronavirus cases: 31 cops test positive for COVID-19 in Indore
Around 31 police personnel have tested positive for coronavirus in Indore, news agency ANI reported quoting a police official.
"While 31 police personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 so far, 22 of them are admitted at hospitals. Eight were discharged after making full recovery and one lost his life," said Mohammad Yusuf Qureshi, SP (East) Indore.
He said that personal protection equipment (PPE) kits have been provided to police personnel who are coming in contact with coronavirus patients in COVID-19 hospitals.
The total number of coronavirus cases in the country has reached 52,952, including 15,267 recovered/migrated and 1,694 deaths, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Coronavirus news: Prisoners in UP's Agra Jail test positive for COVID-19
A prisoner serving a murder sentence at the Central Jail in Agra has tested positive for COVID-19. The prisoner was transferred from a jail in UP's Jhansi to Agra in December 2019.
The prisoner was tested positive on May 6.
Jail authorities say this prisoner has had no outside contact for 45 days. 14 of the inmates who were in close contact with this prisoner have been quarantined.

Coronavirus cases: Chennai Shop Owners Remain Wary As City Sees Spike In Virus Case
Most of the standalone shops in Chennai remained closed for the second day despite government order on relaxation of lockdown that was put in place to control the spread of coronavirus. The shopkeeprs say that the spike in number of COVID-19-related infections in the city have forced them to remain shut despite facing hardship during the 45-day lockdown.

Pandemic leading to illegal drug shortages: UN report
The wide-ranging disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic and its associated lockdowns are leading to shortages of illegal drugs in some countries, according to a UN report released Thursday.
The report warns that particularly in the case of heroin, shortages could lead to the use of "harmful domestically-produced substances" instead. The report particularly mentions of heroin shortage cases in Europe, South-West Asia and North America.
Hyderabad reports 11 new COVID-19 cases
As many as 11 more people in Telangana confirmed positive of coronavirus, said State Director of Public Health and Family Welfare.
"With 11 new COVID-19 cases, the total number of cases in the state stands at 1,107, including 648 discharged/cured, 430 active cases and 29 deaths," the official statement read on Wednesday.
It said that all of the 11 cases have been reported from Hyderabad.

Universities, colleges in J&K reopen with 30% staff, no classes
Universities, colleges and professional courses' institutes in Jammu and Kashmir reopened for administrative works with 30 percent staff, a day after the Higher Education Department allowed them to reopen, but not run any classes till May 30.
A government order issued here said that offices of Vice Chancellors, head of departments, and those of principals of government degree colleges, polytechnic colleges and ITI shall start functioning with minimum 30 percent staff on rotation basis "in the interest of administration".
2,300 cases reported in Pune, more than 100 killed
A total of 99 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Pune, Maharashtra, said a city health official. With 99 new COVID-19 cases the total number of cases has hiked to 2,300.
Seven people died due to coronavirus on Wednesday, taking the total count to 127 in Pune.

Rajasthan decides to seal interstate boundaries
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has decided to seal all interstate boundaries of Rajasthan to prevent any unauthorised entry of people.
Holding a high-level meeting late on Wednesday night, Mr Gehlot directed the officials to seal the border with immediate effect and regulate the interstate boundaries so that those who have permission from the state government could enter.
Mr Gehlot said there had been an unprecedented increase in the number of novel coronavirus cases in many states of the country in the past few days.

Two more persons tested positive for novel coronavirus infection on Wednesday, taking the tally to 127 in Jharkhand, an official said.
Of the 167 samples tested, two were found positive for COVID-19, said Dr D K Singh, Director of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences.
The state now has 87 active cases. While 37 Covid-19 patients have recovered, three died, PTI reported.

The coronavirus pandemic is "under control" in Turkey, the country's health minister said on Wednesday, but warned citizens they still need to take the necessary precautions.
The number of deaths per day in Turkey has fallen in the past week, remaining under 100 within a 24-hour period since April 26.

Coronavirus update: Centre bans export of hand sanitisers
The Union Government on Wednesday banned the export of alcohol-based sanitisers amid coronavirus crisis, ANI reported.
"Alcohol-based hand sanitisers are prohibited for exports," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said in a notification.
Sanitisers are used as a disinfectant to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

Coronavirus update: 3 special trains leave for different states from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh
In continuing evacuation, around 14,000 migrant workers left Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for different states in 13 special trains, an official of the South Central Railway here said on Wednesday.
While 11 trains left Telangana, two originated in Andhra Pradesh during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday and were headed to Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, the official said.
In Telagana, the departure of the trains was from six railway stations, most of them on the city outskirts. In the neighbouring state, the trains originated from Kurnool and Rayanapadu stations, PTI reported.
Coronavirus update: Nagpur man tests positive for COVID-19 after death
22-year-old youth from Parvati Nagar, who died on May 5, tested positive for COVID-19 post death, informed Tukaram Mundhe, Municipal Commissioner, Nagpur, on Wednesday.
Nagpur district has so far recorded three deaths due to coronavirus, ANI reported.
Mundhe informed reporters that Nagpur Municipal Corporation has started contact tracing of the deceased and is also making efforts to identify the containment zones.

Twenty-nine BSF jawans, forming part of a company deployed earlier in the Walled City area in Delhi on internal security duty, tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, an official of the border guarding force said.
All these jawans had been shifted to the Subsidiary Training Center (STC) of BSF on Monday from Delhi for quarantine, PTI reported.

With 47 new cases reported on Wednesday afternoon, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Rajasthan stands at 3240, while three died due to coronavirus today, said Rajasthan Health Department.
Out of the total 47 fresh cases, five have been reported from Jaipur, 32 from Jodhpur, two from Ajmer, one from Bharatpur, two from Dholpur, one from Sawaimadhopur, three from Jalore and one from Sikar.
As many as 82 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the State since morning, ANI reported.
Coronavirus news: Over 95,000 cases, 18,000 arrests in Maharashtra for violations till date
Over 95,000 offenses have been registered under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and more than 18,000 people arrested in Maharashtra since March 22 for violation of lockdown norms in place for the coronavirus outbreak.
"As many as 95,678 offenses have registered under Section 188 (Disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant) of IPC since the lockdown leading to 18,722 arrests and seizure of 53071vehicles," Maharashtra Home Ministry said in a press release.
Cumulatively, more than Rs 3 crore have been collected in fines from offenders, ANI reported.

Maharashtra, which is battling surge in COVID-19 cases, has requested the hospitals under the Railways, the Army and other Central undertakings to make their facilities in the state available to the government which is planning to ramp up the number of ICU beds. The ongoing lockdown, which was first enforced on March 24 to stop the spread of the COVID-19, was to an end on Thursday. This is for the fourth time that the lockdown has been extended by the government, PTI reported.

In a bid to check the spread of coronavirus and avoid crowding of markets, police have implemented the alternate-day formula for functioning of the shops selling essential items till May 17 in Maharashtra's Aurangabad, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.

COVID-19 Cases Reach 1,681 in Indore, Death Count Rises To 81
The number of coronavirus cases in Indore rose to 1,681 after 27 more people tested positive for the disease in the Madhya Pradesh district in last 24 hours, an official said on Wednesday.
The death count also went up to 81 as two more patients died to the viral infection in the district, which is among the worst hit by COVID-19 in the country, Chief Medical and Health Officer Praveen Jadia said.
The two victims included a 36-year-old man, who was already suffering from diabetes and hypertension, and a 75- year-old man, who had a cardiac disorder.
Till now, 491 patients from Indore have been discharged after recovery.
As per an analysis of the data, the COVID-19 death rate in the district was 4.82 per cent till Wednesday morning.
For the last 10 days, the death rate in the district, which is under the COVID-19 red zone, has remained below five per cent.
Curfew is in force in the urban limits of Indore since March 25, after the first coronavirus patient was found in the district, news agency PTI reported.

Coronavirus India Lockdown: Taxi Business Suffers Without Tourists In Goa
Even as the Goa government eased restrictions on tourist taxis amid the COVID-19 lockdown, operators claimed that the move was of no help, as tourism in the coastal state remains suspended.
Speaking to media on Wednesday, president of North Goa Tourist Taxi Association Vasudev Arlekar said despite the state government's decision to allow tourist taxis to resume operations, the business has not picked up.
"There are over 16 lakh four-wheelers in the state, which has a population of 15 lakh. Every household has a car. Our business is completely dependent on tourists and it cannot take off until tourism resumes," Mr Arlekar said.
The associations former president Laxman Korgaonkar had met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant with several demands, he said.
"We had demanded that each taxi operator be paid Rs 12,000 per month for next six months as compensation. Our demand still stands," he said.
Taxi operators were not able to pay their bank instalments and the state government should take up the issue with financial institutions, he said, adding that the government should also postpone insurance renewals and waive off road tax, news agency PTI reported.

13 More Coronavirus Cases In Agra, District Count Reaches 653
13 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Agra, taking the coronavirus tally in the district to 653, said District Magistrate Prabhu N Singh on Wednesday.
The total number of deaths in the district due to coronavirus now stands at 16 while the number of people while have recovered has now reached 225.
Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 49,391 on Wednesday morning, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
This includes 33,514 active cases, and 1,694 deaths due to the infection so far.
However, 14,182 persons have been cured and discharged so far, according to the Health Ministry. One patient has migrated, news agency ANI reported.

Asymptomatic Indians Cleared By UAE Health Authorities Only To Fly Back Home From Thursday: Embassy
The Indian nationals cleared by the UAE health authorities and found to be asymptomatic will only be allowed to fly back home in one of India's biggest ever repatriation exercises, the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has said ahead of the first set of flights on Thursday.
On Monday, the Indian government announced plans to begin a phased repatriation of its citizens stranded abroad from May 7. Air India will operate 64 flights from May 7 to May 13 to bring back around 15,000 Indian nationals stranded abroad amid the COVID-19-induced lockdown, India''s Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday.
The first two special flights that will operate from Thursday to evacuate Indians stranded in the UAE due to the coronavirus pandemic will begin with applicants from Kerala, who formed the majority of the expatriates who have registered to be repatriated from here, Indian Ambassador to the UAE Pavan Kapoor has said.
"All departing passengers will have to undergo medical screening and IGM/IGG test at the departure airport and only those cleared by the UAE health authorities and found to be asymptomatic will be allowed to board the plane," the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi said on Tuesday, news agency PTI reported.
Coronavirus India Lockdown: Liquor Price To Be Hiked In Tamil Nadu By Rs 20 From May 7
Prices of liquor will be raised by a maximum of Rs 20 from May 7 in Tamil Nadu, where the retail outlets will open for business for the first time in over 40 days due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the state government said on Wednesday.
The revision was being effected following a 15 percent increase in excise duty on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), an official release here said.
Accordingly, the rate of a normal brand of 180 ml of IMFL will go up by Rs 10, while premium ones will see a price increase of Rs 20, it said.
The decision to hike the rates comes a day ahead of state-run TASMAC retail outlets set to reopen in Tamil Nadu, with the government giving the nod to resume sales citingCentre's relaxation in this connection and tipplers from border districts thronging shops in Karnataka and AP on May 4, news agency PTI reported.

Strengthen Health Services In COVID-19 and non-COVID Hospitals: Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed officials to strengthen health services in both COVID and non-COVID hospitals in the state.
Interacting with officials of Team-11 during a meeting to review health services in the state, he said emergency services and over 23,000 beds are available, and 2,481 specialist doctors are there to take care patients, according to an official spokesman, Team 11 has eleven officials to monitor the COVID-19 situation in the state.
Mr Adityanath was informed that over 41,000 isolation beds, more than 1,250 beds with ventilators, 21,000 quarantine beds are available for COVID-19 patients.
The chief minister said in 660 private hospitals, over one lakh beds are available for emergency patients and added that health workers have been trained to reduce medical infection.
For helping patients e-consultation services have also been started in each districts and toll-free numbers have been issued, he said, news agency PTI reported.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Dedicates 73 ICUs, Medical Equipment To Hospitals
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday dedicated 73 ICUs, 46 ventilators and 21 BiPAP machines to eight districts in the state and to Doon Medical College.
The Chief Minister dedicated these facilities and machines through video conferencing.
Rawat informed that in the year 2017, there were only three medical colleges, 62 ICUs, 37 ventilators and four BiPAP machines. Now there are 251 ICUs, 113 ventilators, 33 BiPAP machines.
According to Uttarakhand Chief Ministers'' Office (CMO), the Chief Minister informed that in the coming four months, money has been arranged for securing 525 ICUs, 363 ventilators, and 52 BIPAP machines in the state.
There are ICUS in 11 districts now and in the coming week, the districts of Almora and Bageshwar will also have ICUs, he said.
"For COVID-19 positive patients, 753 isolation beds are arranged in government hospitals and 856 in private hospitals. For suspected COVID-19 positive persons, 745 isolation beds in government hospitals and 2,450 beds in private hospitals have been arranged," he added, news agency ANI reported.
Disinfectant Sprayed On People Returning To West Bengal Through ''Shramik Special Train''
Disinfectant was sprayed on people who reached West Bengal by ''Shramik special train'' from Rajasthan on Tuesday.
The train was carrying around 1188 people, mainly migrant workers, from Rajasthan's Ajmer.
The people who arrived at Dankuni Railway Station in Hooghly were screened at the railway station and were sprayed with a disinfectant.
"They are being sent to their respective home after a health check-up. 64 buses and 42 small vehicles have been placed for the purpose," West Bengal Police had informed on Tuesday, news agency ANI reported.

Coronavirus India Lockdown: Token System Introduced For Purchase Of Liquor In Pune
Token system has been introduced for the purchase of alcohol from liquor stores in Pune, said Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar on Tuesday.
He said there will be an implementation of a token system at these stores and without a token, no liquor can be purchased.
On Tuesday, Pune Police registered cases against nine liquor stores for not following the COVID-19 health guidelines.
The move comes as liquor stores witnessed huge rush across the country after the relaxation of lockdown norms by several state governments over the past few days, news agency ANI reported.

COVID-19: Delhi Government Issues SOPs For Screening Of Those Entering Or Leaving City
The Delhi government has issued standard operating procedures for the screening of stranded people moving out of Delhi or into the national capital from other states amid COVID-19 lockdown.
As per the directives issued by the Directorate General of Health Services, people found symptomatic will be directed to undergo 14 days self\home quarantine and will be requested to download Aarogya Setu app.
People with mild symptoms shall be sent to 14-days of self/home quarantine; they, too, will be requested to download the Aarogya Setu app while asymptomatic persons will be allowed to enter/exit Delhi and would be requested to download the app, news agency ANI reported.

"No Data Breach In Aarogya Setu App": Government On Hacker's Red FlagThere is no security breach in coronavirus tracking app Aarogya Setu, the government said today in response to claims by a French "white hat", or ethical hacker, who said on Tuesday that the "privacy of 90 million Indians is at stake". Gautam Buddh Nagar: Not Having Aarogya Setu App In Smartphones While Out In Public Places Will Be Punishable
Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) has clarified that not having Aarogya Setu App installed in smartphones while out in public places will be a punishable offence.
In an order issued on Sunday, Commissioner Ashutosh Dwivedi said, "If smartphone users do not have Aarogya Setu App installed on their phones while out in a public place then this will be a punishable offence for the violation of lockdown norms."
The order also stated that not wearing masks and not covering faces at work and public places will also be considered a violation of the lockdown norms and will be punishable.
Spitting in public places has also been made a punishable offence.
The orders will be applicable till May 17, it added, news agency ANI reported.

Coronavirus India Lockdown: Section 144 Imposed In Ghaziabad Till May 31
Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) will continue to be imposed in Ghaziabad district till May 31, according to District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey.
According to a directive issued by the District Magistrate's office, the period for which Section 144 has been imposed can be altered in the coming days keeping into mind the prevailing COVID-19 situation.
"Section 144 CrPC to remain imposed in Ghaziabad district till May 31, 2020. This period can be reduced or cancelled as per the situation," a letter by the DM, roughly translated to English from Hindi, read.
The rest of the restrictions will stay in place as per the earlier orders, news agency ANI reported.

US coronavirus deaths rise by 2,333 in 24 hours: Report
The US coronavirus death toll climbed by 2,333 in the past 24 hours, a tally by Johns Hopkins University showed Tuesday, more than twice as many as the day before.
The Baltimore-based university said as of 8:30 pm (0030 GMT Wednesday) that the country had suffered a total of 71,022 deaths.
