UT KhaderMANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada district minister Kota Shrinavas Poojari has announced on Wednesday that all textile and readymade shops in the district will be allowed to open from Thursday.
However, he has given permission for shops with certain conditions. Shops should close down the trial rooms in their premises. Similarly, more emphasis should be given for social distancing, Poojari said and added that shopping malls will continue to remain closed as per the lockdown regulation.
This decision of minister to allow textile and readymade shops during lockdown has invited the wrath of many, especially Muslim leaders, in the district. Many Muslim leaders and organisations have decided not to go Ramzan shopping. They have requested community members to say not to Ramzan shopping and cooperate with the government to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Former district minister and Mangaluru MLA UT Khader has reacted sharply against Poojari’s decision.“Is it necessary to take such decision even when the number of Covid-19 cases is increasing in the district? The minister had said at a meeting that textile shops will not be allowed to open. However, all of a sudden, he changed the decision. It is a wrong on part of the minister to take such a decision,” Khader said.
Further, the Congress leader also lashed at the BJP government for opening wine shops in the district. “Instead of taking up measures to control the spread of Covid-19, the government has given permission for wine shops and textiles outlets to open. People in the district have not requested the government to open textile shops. BJP government will be responsible if the number of Covid-19 increases due to their decisions that lacks farsightedness. Let the government provide basic infrastructure to prevent the spread of disease instead of taking unnecessary decisions. Let them improve the capacity of lab in the Covid-19 designated hospital in the city,” Khader urged.
