Ludhiana: The civic body has sent samples collected after treatment near Jamalpur sewerage treatment plant (STP) at Buddha Nullah. The civic body has started treatment of water being thrown inside drain after passing through STP to improve BOD in drain water. A chemical called sodium aluminium hydrochloride is being used for treatment in STP. The officials have claimed that the sewerage water that is being released into Buddha Nullah after treatment is of improved quality.
Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu had also visited Jamalpur STP on Tuesday evening to review the ongoing progress. He said he is satisfied with the results, but claimed that long-term impact of the chemical should be checked. He claimed that they need to check whether it will create impact on Satluj when drain water will mix with river water. He also claimed that Satluj water is being used for irrigation and drinking purpose at many places so they cannot use anything that can prove harmful later on. The mayor claimed that after test reports are awaited be able to reach any conclusion.
