Shweta Bachchan Nanda hosted the sweetest DIY graduation for Navya Naveli Nanda in Jalsa's backyard

On May 7, 2020, Navya Naveli Nanda was supposed to be walking the stage and collecting her graduation certificate from Fordham University in New York. But given the turn of events brought on by the novel coronavirus over the past three months, the 23-year-old is, like the rest of the world, living in lockdown, reportedly at her grandparents' Mumbai home, Jalsa. 

But a cancelled graduation ceremony didn't stop Nanda's family from celebrating her milestone moment in a big way this week. In order to mark the momentous day, mother Shweta Bachchan Nanda put together a little DIY grad afternoon for her daughter in what looks like her backyard, and the resulting pictures have already taken over social media. Navya Naveli Nanda smiled for the camera dressed in a homemade graduation hat fashioned out of black chart paper, and a matching ebony robe that was hand-stitched using scraps of black tenting available at home. Her look for the day was casual, given that she was at home: a simple black T-shirt with ripped jeans and Nike sneakers. Amping up the festive mood was Shweta, who topped her pyjamas off with a Fordham sweatshirt.

On Navya Naveli Nanda's special day, grandfather,] Amitabh Bachchan also took to social media to write a heartfelt message for her: “Grand daughter Navya .. the most important day in the life of a young student - Graduation Day..! She graduated from College in New York, but ceremony and presence got cancelled because of Corona and lockdown..she could not go.. we too had all planned to be with her on this important occasion..” Don't miss the sweet slow-mo video he accompanied his message with. 

Along with Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Amitabh Bachchan, Navya Naveli Nanda's uncle Abhishek Bachchan also shared a sweet Instagram post for his niece on her big day. "Seems like yesterday that we were moving you into your dorm room as a freshman... Wait, strike that. Not "we", "I"!! (You always managed to make Mamu do the heavy lifting)," the star wrote.
