Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he spoke to disaster management officials on Thursday as his government monitored the fallout from a deadly gas leak at the LG Polymers chemical plant in Visakhapatnam.
PM Modi also spoke with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and assured him of all help.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asked party members in the area to provide help to locals affected by the leak.
As of this writing, eight people were dead. One of them was a child. (Get live updates here.)
The gas leak occurred at around 2.30 am this morning, following which many were taken to hospitals with complaints of headaches, vomiting and breathing problems.
