  • Instead, she recommends you always label and tackle everything with a plan

  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

A mother-of-two with a passion for interiors and styling has shared a look inside her home, revealing how she has spent the isolation period during coronavirus carrying out small but stylish projects.

Carmen Strong, 29, from Springfield in New South Wales, said this period of social distancing doesn't have to mean everything stops, and in fact, it has given her a good opportunity to make tiny improvements in every area of her busy household.

'I thought I'd share some of my organising projects I've been working on for anyone currently in isolation/working on their homes,' Carmen posted on Facebook.

She accompanied her post with photos of the fridge, pantry, under the sink area, laundry room, kitchen cupboards and drawers.

PANTRY

For those wanting to tackle their pantry on a shoestring, Carmen said she is a big fan of IKEA.

The mum-of-two invested in $10 and $15 wooden crate boxes and glass jars from the Swedish homewares store and filled them with all of her produce, including sauces, canned foods, condiments, cereal, almonds and coconut.

To ensure she could see what is what, Carmen bought pantry labels from Little Label Co, which cost as little as $2.50 but improve the overall look and feel of a space in seconds.

'I also bought some jars for things like sunflower seeds, split peas and hemp seeds from an ALDI Special Buy,' Carmen said.

She added that it's always worth looking at the supermarket's Special Buys, as they often have some very good quality items for cheap prices.

These particular containers are air-tight.

The space under the sink is an area that is often absolutely filled with old plastic bags, leftover laundry powder and cleaning essentials, but it doesn't have to be this way with a few tubs from IKEA (pictured)

What are Carmen's top styling tricks?

* Label everything for a more streamlined look.

* Take everything out first, sort out what you have and then place it back into a designated space.

* Always work with a visual plan before you start any area.

* Try and buy multiple items of the same thing so that your home looks neater just by being uniform.

* Work with the space you have. You don't need to have a large home to get organised.

UNDER THE SINK

The space under the sink is an area that is often absolutely filled with old plastic bags, leftover laundry powder and cleaning essentials.

But Carmen said it doesn't have to be this way, provided you invest in a few storage solutions.

Again, she likes IKEA for tubs for items like scrubbing brushes, essentials, dish washing and cleaning products.

'They are all the same tubs, I just turned the IKEA Variera on one side with the essentials to store it better,' she said.

Carmen also uses the tubs in other areas of her house, to organise vitamins and miscellaneous items.

KITCHEN DRAWERS AND FRIDGE

In a similar way, the kitchen drawers can often easily become a mess.

Her fridge is also neatly organised and stacked.

She also loves visiting Peter's of Kensington to try and get her hands on a kitchen bargain.

LAUNDRY

'These containers were super cheap from Bunnings and the labels are from Luxe Labels,' Carmen said.

'They are surprisingly massive - the size of laundry baskets - and are called the Hills Home Living sets.'

Carmen said styling and organisation are 'like a hobby' for her; she does it on the side of her regular work (pictured: inside her drawers)

Speaking previously to Home Beautiful, Carmen said styling and organisation are 'like a hobby' for her.

'I do it on the side. Some people like to sit and watch Netflix or TV, and others - like me - we spend our time styling and organising. It's refreshing and keeps things fun,' she said.

If you want to tackle your own home, Carmen's best advice is to take everything out first, sort out what you have before placing it back into a designated space.

It's a technique she says has allowed her to organise even the 'smallest of spaces efficiently'.
