Representative imageLUCKNOW: A man strangled his wife on suspicion of infidelity and then committed suicide in Thakurganj on Wednesday. He, however, spared his two minor daughters, whose cries alerted neighbours who tipped off the police. When cops broke open the doors of the house in Balaganj locality, they found the man, Gajendra Kumar, hanging from a dupatta tied to a ceiling hook and his wife, Rubi, lying dead on a bed in another room. The couple lived with their two daughters, aged seven and three, in a rented house.
Station House Officer, Thakurganj, Pramod Kumar said, a terror-stricken elder daughter hid herself when she saw her father assaulting mother. “Later, she noticed that her mother was motionless and father hanging from the ceiling. Then she began crying,” he said. “Neighbours told us that Gajendra suspected his wife was in a relationship with another man and would fight frequently. We have not received any suicide note, so the probe will cover multiple angles,” said SHO Kumar. The two girls were sent to their grandparents.
Besides the Balaganj incident, two more suicides were committed in the city on Wednesday.
While a 22-year-old man, brother of a local politician, was found hanging in his house in Thakurganj, a 35-yearold woman killed herself in a shanty in Jankipuram.
