With proper measures against COVID-19 being put in place, Panaji municipal market complex has been thrown open to the people after several days. The market complex was shut due to lockdown restrictions.

As per information, the city Mayor reopened the market gate and police and municipal workers were present to ensure shopkeepers, vendors and the visitors at large were maintaining social distancing, wearing face mask and adhering to other norms.

Only few shops like that of readymade garments, mobile repairs, cutlery, masala items and groceries have been permitted to reopen and conduct business.

They have been given timings to operate from 8 in the morning to 6 in the morning, while other shops of vegetable and fruits have not been given permission and the decision in that regard was yet to be taken.

Before opening the shops, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) had undertaken massive cleaning and sanitisation drive with the help of fire and emergency services personnel a couple of days ago.

With the opening of the entry point of the market complex, the authorities are yet to take a decision on the exit point and as such the exit gate on the fish market side has not been opened.

On Thursday morning, only one gate was thrown open to the public and decision on the opening of the other gate would be taken after observing the situation in the market complex, it was learnt.
