Super Flower Moon 2020 LIVE Updates: Last month we witnessed the Super Pink Moon and now you have the chance to witness another supermoon called Super Flower Moon. Tonight, the moon in the sky will be the Super Flower Moon. It is the fourth and last supermoon of the year 2020.
The Super Flower Moon will reach peak illumination at 4.15 pm IST today. During this time, the moon will appear bigger and brighter than usual as it will be near perigee— the closest approach of Moon to the Earth.
Since this full moon will also be a supermoon, it is being called the Super Flower Moon. The term “supermoon” was coined by the astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 and it refers to either a new or full moon that occurs within 90 per cent of perigee. Here’s a list of all Lunar events in 2020.

The Super Flower Moon or full moon corresponds to Vesak which is otherwise known as Buddha Purnima, which is some times called 'Buddha's Birthday.' This day commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of Gautama Buddha. 'The actual date of Vesak varies depending upon the calendar in use in the particular country or region, but this year for most areas it falls on or near the day of this full Moon,' NASA notes.

According to NASA, back in the 1930s Maine Farmer's Almanac first published "Indian" names for the full Moons. "According to this almanac, as the full Moon in May and the second full Moon of spring, the Algonquin tribes of what is now the northeastern United States called this the Flower Moon, for the flowers that are abundant this time of year. Other names include the Corn Planting Moon and the Milk Moon," stated NASA. Super Flower Moon is the last in a series of four supermoons.
