Coronavirus Pune: No dearth of help for the poor amid lockdown

Pune: As the entire country and State of Maharashtra is under the coronavirus lockdown 3.0, many organisations and corporates are coming forward to help the needy of the society.

Mental counselling program 
The Center for Mental Health and Disabilities of Karve Institute of Social Services and Pune District Hospital have started a mental counselling program to provide psychological support to the workers and labourers stranded due to lockdown in various labour relief camps of CREDAI in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad area.

Keeping in mind the sense of social commitment, ‘Rairah Foundation’ has extended a helping hand to the needy during this difficult time with relief work at various places in Pune. The Foundation on behalf of ‘RSS Jankalyan Samiti’ recently distributed ration for one week to labourers and other needy families in the areas of Janwadi and Vadar Vasti in the presence of Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol. 

The Foundation so far has distributed ration for one week to over 2,000 needy families in various parts across Pune.

Supply of provisions to needy  
Another organisation, Yogoda Satsanga Society (YSS) of India, Pune is also reaching out to the migrant labour, daily wage workers, affected by the current COVID-19 crisis and lockdown, in supplying provisions for their families. Devotees from the Pune centre of YSS have donated a total of the 516 kits of ration items. YSS Pune Kendra shall continue to distribute more ration kits to the needy during this pandemic crisis informed by Ashok Wahi Chairman Yogoda Satsanga Dhyana Kendra, Pune.

The Azam Campus provided groceries and necessities of life to the needy, labourers and workers of Mundhwa area. Another organisation, Asha Foundation, is also helping the poor and needy in the difficult time of the pandemic. They have distributed more than 175 ration kits to the needy in a different part of the city. 

Rajkumar Pisal, one of the members, said, “We are helping people by providing ration kits and will continue even after the lockdown as it will take a few months for everyone to stabilise so that they can take care of their needs on their own.”

Disinfecting/sanitising common areas 
As with the increase of movement in our surroundings, chances of the spread of infection may increase if not disinfected regularly. Considering this is the need of the Hour, Hawk-Eye Facilities introduced disinfecting services for common areas of housing societies, homes and workplace by using chemicals advised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Many prominent societies such as Roseland residency Magarpatta, Sindh society Bungalows have carried out chemical disinfection and many more are scheduled.

One of the corporates, MG Motor India is undertaking the complete car sanitisation including fumigation, car wash, cabin refresh and sanitisation of high touch points (Interior and Exterior) of Police vehicles. Under this initiative, the carmaker aims to sanitise up to 4,000 police vehicles across India at its service stations, started from May 4.
