Police constable guarding Belagavi DC bungalow kills self on duty

BELAGAVI: In a tragic incident, 35-year-old police constable - shot himself at the neck - point blank - killing self in the wee hours of Wednesday in Belagavi city.
The police personnel identified as Prakash Gurayyanavara was deputed to guard Deputy Commissioner’ (DC) bungalow. The reasons for his extreme yet to be established and is subject to investigation.
The constable using his official gun SLR (self-loading rifle) that was given to him to guard DC S Bommanahalli’ home office shot himself dead in the duty hours His body was lying inside a room located at the entry gate where he was discharging the duty.
The incident came to light after staff at the DC’ bungalow found him dead with bullet wound on the neck and informed Bommanahalli following which police rushed to the spot.
The police has cordoned off the scene of crime and have started initial procedures. The FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team is currently at the spot and are recovering fingerprints. Once the procedures get over the body will be recovered and sent to autopsy.
Belagavi City Police Commissioner BS Lokesh Kumar talking to TOI said the incident may have happened post mid night or early morning hours today. The police will register a case and start investigation. The reason for the suicide is yet to be known.
