A militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.
According to PTI, the militants was killed in the retaliatory firing.
An exchange of fire between militants and security forces was reported on Wedneday morning in south Kashmir's Pulwama.
A police official said the brief exchange of firing took place between militants and security forces in Sharsali area of Khrew in Pulwama's Awantipora area.
The firing was reported when a joint team of Army's 50 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF's 185 Battalion and police launched a pre-dawn cordon and search operation in Sharsali area near Khrew.
"The operation is on," said a police official. The police did not divulge any further details about the operation.
Another encounter in Beighpora
Meanwhile, another encounter broke out between militants and security forces in the Beighpora area of Pulwama district, a police spokesman said.
“Police last night launched an operation on a specific input at Beighpora. Senior officers are monitoring it since last night,” he said.
The PTI agency quoted the spokesman saying a contact has been established with the militants and a “top terrorist commander” is trapped.
JeM militant arrested in Tral area
In a seperate development, a militant belong to the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad was arrested and arms and ammunition seized from his possession in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Wednesday.
The militant was apprehended by the security forces at the Satura crossing when he was found moving under suspicious circumstances, a police official said.
On his questioning, the security forces recovered an AK-56 rifle, five AK magazines, 150 AK rounds, three Chinese grenades and two cell phones, the official said.
