Bihar transgender stuck in city seek passes

Ranchi: Around 20 transgender, who arrived from Bihar for Holi, are stuck in Ranchi and on Tuesday, approached the district administration for passes to travel back.
Every year, the group comes down to Ranchi for brisk business during the festival of colours from Motihari, Bettiah and Gopalganj districts of the neighbouring state. The group has been left in the lurch with the lockdown in place and going door-to-door for money is not an option.
A member of the group, Pinky Yadav, said, “We usually go back to our hometown in the last week of March, but due to the lockdown, we could not travel back. We thought that it will get over in May, but after it did not, we approached the administration for passes. They have assured us of the same.”
The group is currently residing with their teacher in Old Ranchi at Kishoreganj and bank on social workers who provide them food and other assistance. Basanti Gupta from Bettiah said, “Our parents are in distress because of coronavirus. We want to go home as soon as possible. A few social workers have been helping us with food and things, but how long can we live like this?” Some of the members also rue that whatever money they had made during Holi was spent in staying in Ranchi and this time they would go home almost penniless.
