Punjab: Congress sarpanch hacked to death in Passiyana

PATIALA: 32-year-old sarpanch of Passiyana village in Patiala district was hacked to death allegedly by two persons who had been out on parole on late Tuesday night.
Village sarpanch Bhupinder Singh (32), who is affiliated with the Congress party, was attacked by youths with a sharp weapon in the village, during which he sustained 26 sharp edge wounds over his body which proved fatal.
He was rushed to the government Rajindra Hospital at Patiala from where he was referred to PGI Chandigarh where he was declared dead. According to the sources, last month he had escaped a brutal attack by two persons who are believed to have attacked the sarpanch last night also.
The police said that it is being believed that the Sarpanch had an old animosity with the two persons who are suspected of having attacked him last night. Th cops have registered a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at the Passiyana police station and the matter is being investigated.
