Hyundai Palisade Gains Range-Topping Calligraphy And VIP Trims In Korea, Could Be Coming To America

Hyundai has unveiled the 2020 Palisade in South Korea and it comes in new range-topping Calligraphy and VIP trims.

On the styling front, the Calligraphy is distinguished by a revised grille and body-color cladding. The model also has unique wheels and faux silver skid plates.

Bigger changes occur in the cabin as designers installed nappa leather seats, quilted leather door panels and ambient interior lighting. Elsewhere, there’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a perforated leather steering wheel, a head-up display and rear sunshades.

If that isn’t luxurious enough, the VIP adds a Maybach-like rear passenger compartment. While it’s not as fancy as the GLS, the VIP has two individual rear seats which are separated by a center console with heated and cooled cup holders. Second row passengers will also find an air purifier, wireless smartphone chargers and a rear seat entertainment system with two separate displays. Sound from the displays is pumped through “wing type” headrests with built-in speakers.

Interestingly, the GV Forums has stumbled onto a VIN decoder that suggests the Calligraphy will be offered in the United States for 2021. However, it remains unclear if the VIP variant will also be crossing the Pacific.

Regardless, Hyundai announced a handful of other changes for the Palisade lineup in South Korea. In particular, Exclusive and Prestige models gain additional standard equipment including a 10.25-inch infotainment system with GPS navigation and an in-car intercom which enables the driver to more easily communicate with passengers in the second and third row.

Other updates include new options and accessories, a revised color palette and a beefier trailer packing. The latter enables the crossover to pull unbraked trailers weighing up to 4,409 lbs (2,000 kg). This is a significant increase from the previous limit of 1,653 lbs (750 kg).
