MUMBAI: An infant who had tested positive for Covid-19 eight days after he was born was discharged from a Nalasopara hospital on Wednesday. His father who also tested positive is still under treatment.
The infant was born in the civic hospital in Naigaon. On April 19, when he turned eight days, he and his father tested positive. His mother tested negative. He was admitted to the Covid-19 ward of the Riddhi Vinayak private hospital in Nalasopara (west). As the mother was negative, she could not be beside the baby.
Doctors and nurses at the hospital attended to the baby who was fed only milk. Paediatrician Dr Shailesh Barot who was attending to the child said that the baby had developed some infections and was on a seven-day course. He said that the nurses needed to be lauded for taking care of the baby and ensuring that he was well fed and kept away from infections.
The baby's second test that arrived on Wednesday came negative, much to the relief of the hospital staff. He was handed over to his mother amid claps and cheers by the hospital staff. His father is under treatment for the virus in the same hospital.
