NOIDA: The city on Tuesday reported its first case of a baby being born with Covid. The baby girl, born two days ago, and an Afghan national were among 13 persons who tested positive in Noida on Tuesday.
Officials said the girl’s mother, a resident of Nithari, had tested positive a few days ago and delivered the baby in the isolation ward on Sunday. The father, too, was found to have Covid. Last month, a baby born to a Covid patient in the city had tested negative.
Among the other persons who tested positive on Tuesday were two nurses at GIMS and Sharda Hospital. The Afghan national found to have Covid studies in a private college in Greater Noida and stayed at a rented accommodation in Alpha 1. He is currently admitted to Sharda Hospital.
“We have informed the foreign ministry and other authorities concerned. There were some language constraints. We have organised translators to talk to him about his possible contacts,” said Suhas LY, the district magistrate.
Parts of Alpha 1 will be a containment zone again after it was taken off the list of hotspots recently. The last case from the sector was reported on March 21, after which it was sealed for 28 days.
Other patients who tested positive on Tuesday include two men, aged 42 and 16, from JJ Colony. So far, 30 cases have been reported from the area, making it the second largest cluster in the district after the Cease Fire chain. Officials said they had prepared a separate plan of action for testing and contact tracing in the area.
The other patients included a 57-year-old man from Sector 7 and four persons from Bisrakh. All the Bisrakh patients are contacts of a woman who had tested positive earlier. A 41-year-old woman from Sector 137 was also among those added to Tuesday’s Covid count.
In the past five days, Noida has reported 54 new cases. Tuesday’s cases pushed the Noida tally to 192, but 109 of them have recovered and have been discharged from hospital.
