Toll collections to see 13% drop due to 57-day coronavirus lockdown: CRISIL Research
- The 57-day nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 will result in a sharp 13 per cent fall in toll collections and remittances, CRISIL Research said on Wednesday.
- In case, the lockdown is extended by another two weeks, the decline will be even sharper at 17 per cent, it said.
Govt extends last date for filing annual GST return for FY19 by 3 months till Sept
- The government has extended the last date for filing annual GST return for financial year 2018-19 by three months till September 2020.
- In another trade-friendly move, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has also extended the validity of e-way bills that were generated on or before March 24, and had expiry between March 20 and April 15, 2020.
- A notification has been issued to extend the time limit for furnishing of annual (goods and services tax) return and reconciliation statement for the financial year 2018-19 till September 30, 2020, CBIC said in a tweet.

- Hyundai Motor India on Wednesday said around 250 company dealerships have resumed operations across various states.
- The company, which is the country's second-largest carmaker, said over 250 workshops have also commenced work and vehicle deliveries have also begun.
Health ministry launches Aarogya Setu IVRS facility for those without smartphones
- The ‘Aarogy Setu Interactive Voice Response System' has been implemented to include citizens with feature phones and landline connections under the ambit of the ‘Aarogya Setu' mobile application, the Union Health Ministry has said, urging people to download the application for combating COVID-19.
- The ‘Aarogy Setu Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS)' is a toll-free service, available across the country, wherein citizens can give a missed call to the number ‘1921' and they will get a call back requesting for inputs regarding their health, the ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Telangana expects 2350 expats stranded abroad to return
- About 2,350 people hailing from Telangana are likely to come home soon by seven special flights as part of the Centre's initiative to bring back Indians stranded abroad due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
- Telangana chief secretary Somesh Kumar held a review meeting on arrangements for their arrival by special flights being arranged by the centre, an official release said on Wednesday.

Royal Enfield resumes operations at Oragadam unit with minimal staff
- Iconic bike manufacturer Royal Enfield, part of Eicher Motors, resumed operations on Wednesday at its Oragadam manufacturing unit after remaining shut for more than a month due to the COVID-19 enforced lockdown.
- The company has manufacturing facilities at Oragadam, Thiruvottiyur, and Vallam Vadagal near Chennai.

- China on Wednesday dared US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to show "enormous evidence" he claimed to have to prove that the novel coronavirus originated from a lab in Wuhan and said he has no evidence to back up his claims.
- On May 3, Pompeo said that the US has "enormous evidence" to show that the coronavirus began in the Wuhan Institute of Virology and Beijing has refused to give international scientists access to learn what happened.
TVS Motor resumes operations across plants in India
- TVS Motor Company on Wednesday said it has resumed operations at all of its manufacturing facilities across the country.
- The company has commenced operations in India across all factories in Hosur, Mysuru and Nalagarh, TVS Motor Company said in a statement.

- Mercedes-Benz India on Wednesday said it has resumed production at its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune.
- The production has commenced in a graded manner following directives from the government of Maharashtra to reopen and resume operations, the company said in a statement.
Hiring during April dips by 62% due to lockdown to curb COVID-19: Report
- The nationwide lockdown due to the spread of COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in 62 per cent decline in hiring activities in April compared to the same month last year, according to a report.
- Hiring activities dropped to 951 last month from 2,477 in April 2019, according to the Naukri JobSpeak Index.
- The April 2020 decline in hiring is led by sectors like hotel/restaurant/travel/airlines (-91 per cent), auto/ancillary (-82 per cent), retail (-77 per cent) and accounting/finance (-70 per cent).

Lack of manpower hampering plans to restart plants: Honda
- Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) on Wednesday said lack of required workforce is making it difficult for the company to resume operations at its two manufacturing plants, but added that its dealerships have started to open across the country.
- The automaker, which sells models like City and Amaze, said that with new relaxations rolled out by the government, it is planning to restart operations at Tapukara plant in Rajasthan sometime next week.
COVID-19 infects 548 docs, nurses, paramedics across India
- Coronavirus has infected around 548 doctors, nurses and paramedics across the country so far, according to data maintained by the Centre, official sources said on Wednesday.
- The figure does not include field workers, ward boys, sanitation workers, security guards, lab attendants, peons, laundry and kitchen staff among others.
- According to an official source, it has not been ascertained from where these doctors, nurses and paramedic staff have acquired the infection.

85 more BSF personnel test COVID-19 positive; total 154 infected
- Eighty-five more personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF)have tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total to 154, a force official said on Wednesday.
- These include over 60 troops, who were deployed for law and order duties in the Jamia and Chandni Mahal area of the national capital, and six from the escort team of the inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) that toured West Bengal to check COVID-19 containment measures in the state.
- At least 37 infected personnel are from the Tripura frontier of the force.
Lockdown: 4,000 Goans from 65 countries seek to return home
- At least 4,000 Goans from 65 countries have registered themselves on the Goa NRI commission's portal to come back to the country amid the coronavirus-enforced lockdown, state NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar said on Wednesday.
- The state NRI commission has shared the data with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Sawaikar told PTI.

India to send nearly 1,000 tonnes of paracetamol raw material to Europe
- India will supply Europe with about 1,000 tonnes of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for common pain reliever paracetamol, a top exports body said, easing export controls on over-the counter medicines used to cope with COVID-19 symptoms.
- The Indian government in March put a hold on exports of several drugs including paracetamol to secure supplies for its people after the coronavirus outbreak disrupted the industry's supply chain globally. COVID-19 is the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

- Close to nine crore users have downloaded the Aarogya Setu mobile application and it has been made mandatory that government and private sector employees use it to bolster efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

COVID-19 cases reach 1,681 in Indore; death toll rises to 81
- The number of coronavirus cases in Indore rose to 1,681 after 27 more people tested positive for the disease in the Madhya Pradesh district in last 24 hours, an official said on Wednesday.
- The death toll also went up to 81 as two more patients succumbed to the viral infection in the district, which is among the worst hit by COVID-19 in the country, Chief Medical and Health Officer Praveen Jadia said.

China says tariffs should not be used as weapons after US threats
- China's foreign ministry said on Wednesday tariffs should not be used as a weapon, after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened new tariffs last week as a retaliatory measure over Beijing's handling of the coronavirus crisis.
- Spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters during a daily briefing that tariffs in general hurt all parties involved. She reiterated that the United States should stop shifting its responsibilities over COVID-19 and said accusations that China deliberately spread the virus are baseless.
Philippines' coronavirus infections top 10,000 : Ministry
In a bulletin, the health ministry reported 320 additional infections, bringing the total to 10,004. It also reported 21 new deaths, bringing the toll to 658. But 98 patients have recovered, bringing total recoveries to 1,506.
