A prisoner in Queensland's Woodford Correctional Centre has been found dead in custody.

A Queensland Corrective Services spokesman said the 37-year-old man died just before 4pm on Wednesday after his body was found in a laundry at the centre.

"Custodial correctional staff immediately began first aid on the man, however he was unable to be revived," the spokesman said.

"CSIU [Corrective Services Investigations Unit] is investigating the incident, and Queensland Corrective Services will assist in the investigation and the preparation of a report to the coroner.

"His next of kin has been informed, and our condolences go to his family and friends."
