Garcia to meet with Caricom on CXC

Minister of Education (MoE) Anthony Garcia is expected to meet with the Caricom Secretariat and other regional ministers of education to decide on the way forward with CXC examinations.
The virtual meeting, scheduled for Friday, comes after rounds of deliberation in light of the restrictions in place to deal with the covid19 pandemic.
The pandemic has forced the closure of schools since March and other regional countries have also done the same.
The ministry said in a release it was "aware of the concerns shared by parents, teachers and students and these concerns will be tabled during this meeting.”
It added, however, that there was misinformation circulating about the administration of the CXC examination which has amounted to confusion.
It said, “Any communication on the direction of the MoE during the covid19 pandemic will be available on the official channels of the ministry and the Ministry of Communications.
“These should be the only points of reference used for valid information.”
Garcia had previously said the government is not in favour of the format proposed by CXC for multiple-choice papers and school-based assessments (SBA) as the only form of testing for this year’s exams.
