Coronavirus latest updates: Death toll rises to 1,568, cases climb to 46,433 in India

NEW DELHI: As many as 1,074 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, the highest number of recoveries recorded in one day, the health ministry said on Monday. The health ministry said the recovery rate stands at 27.52 per cent with 11,706 Covid-19 patients cured till now.
The death toll due to Covid-19 rose to 1,568 and the total number of cases climbed to 46,433 in the country on Monday. The number of active cases in India stands at 32,134 while 12,727 people were cured/discharged/migrated.

3,900 cases and 195 deaths, biggest Covid-19 spike in India in 24 hours
India registered the biggest jump in numbers of Covid-19 cases and deaths, with 3,900 new cases and 195 deaths being reported in the last 24 hours, according to the ministry of health on Tuesday.
"3,900 Covid-19 cases and 195 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, the largest spike till now in both," according to the ministry of health.
The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India reached 46,433, including 1,568 deaths.
Three Navy ships sail out to bring back stranded Indians from Maldives, UAE
Three Navy warships have sailed out to bring back stranded Indian citizens from the Maldives and United Arab Emirates, said defence spokesperson on Tuesday.
According to the Indian Navy, the warships include INS Jalashwa, INS Magar and INS Shardul.
"INS Jalashwa deployed at sea, off Mumbai along with INS Magar diverted for the Maldives. INS Shardul also at sea diverted to Dubai, for getting expatriates," said Commander Sridhar Warrier, defence spokesperson.
A total of 14 warships have been readied for evacuating Indian citizens from the Gulf and other countries.
Section 144 imposed in Mumbai till May 17
In a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19, Mumbai Police have announced that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been imposed in the city till May 17.
Section 144 of CrPC prohibits the assembly of four or more people in an area.
"The Movement of one or more persons for all non-essential services, except for medical reasons, will be prohibited between 8 pm and 7 am," the police said.
China reports 1 new virus case, no deaths
China reported one new case of coronavirus Tuesday and no deaths, marking three weeks since it recorded a Covid-19 fatality.
The National Health Commission said 395 people remained under treatment in the hospital, while 949 were under isolation and observation for suspected cases or after testing positive despite showing no symptoms.
771 new cases take Maha Covid-19 tally to 14,541; 35 more die
Maharashtra's Covid-19 tally on Monday jumped by 771 to 14,541, while 35 more patients died - 18 of them in Mumbai - taking the toll to 583, said a state health department official.
Confusion prevailed after health officials announced Covid-19 tally for the state to be at 14,541 with the addition of 771 new cases on Monday. However, figures did not add up as on Sunday the state tally stood at 12,974 cases.
A senior health official on late Monday night issued a clarification, stating, Maharashtra on Monday reported 771 new cases of COVID-19. However, another 796 cases, which were tested earlier but they got verified (later), were added in todays tally, making it 14,541.
World will need a new template of globalisation post Covid-19: PM Modi
The coronavirus crisis has exposed the limitations of the existing international system and highlighted the need for a new template of globalisation based on fairness, equality and humanity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.
He was speaking at an online summit of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM), a forum of around 120 developing countries.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister also highlighted India's fight against the pandemic and said it has shown how "democracy, discipline and decisiveness" can come together to create a genuine people's movement overcoming the challenge.
Two special flights to begin evacuating Indians from UAE on Thursday
Two special flights are set to operate on Thursday to evacuate Indians stranded in the United Arab Emirates due Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian Consulate in Dubai has announced.
The passenger list for the two flights -- Abu Dhabi to Kochi and Dubai to Kozhikode -- will be finalized by the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi, and the Consulate General of India, Dubai, a statement said.
Virus deaths top 250,000 as billions raised for vaccine push
Global deaths from the coronavirus pandemic topped a quarter-million on Monday, mostly in the US and Europe even as both regions slowly moved away from lockdown and world leaders raised billions towards a vaccine.
An AFP tally of official figures showed that Europe is the hardest-hit continent with around 145,000 fatalities, and the United States recorded close to 68,700 -- together accounting for more than 85 per cent of global fatalities.
UN: US hasn't shared evidence on alleged coronavirus origin
The World Health Organization's emergencies chief said Monday that it has received no evidence from the US government to back up allegations by President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that the coronavirus could have originated at a laboratory in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
"From our perspective, this remains speculative,” Michael Ryan told reporters in Geneva.
"We have not received any data or specific evidence from the US government relating to the purported origin of the virus."
