GHAZIABAD/NOIDA: A Ghaziabad resident undergoing treatment for lung infection at a Noida hospital died of multi-organ failure on Sunday night, an hour after reports from a private lab said he had Covid.
However, the man from Khoda Colony is yet to be added to the Covid tally of either Noida or Ghaziabad. Officials in Noida claimed they had informed their counterparts in the neighbouring city, while authorities in Ghaziabad said they were waiting for the state control room of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme to take a call on the matter.
The man, a 47-year-old original resident of Bihar, had been admitted to the private hospital in Sector 137 two days ago. He had complained of breathing problems and respiratory issues. His Covid test was also conducted and the report came positive on Sunday night. Within an hour, the man died of multi-organ failure.
“A resident of Khoda Colony had been admitted to a private hospital in Noida two days ago after being referred from there. He was found having Covid after a test was conducted at a private lab in Delhi. He died on Sunday night. Medical teams in Ghaziabad have been informed. There is no death from Covid in Noida as of now,” said Deepak Ohri, Noida’s chief medical officer.
Soon after the report confirmed the coronavirus infection, authorities sealed the private hospital where the man had been undergoing treatment. A sanitisation drive was also conducted in the area.
Ghaziabad chief medical officer NK Gupta said the man had been staying alone in a rented accommodation in Khoda. “He was undergoing treatment in Noida. I was informed about his death and the Covid test result around 1.30am on Monday. He was cremated in the morning in Noida itself,” he added.
