BMC officials said 289 people from Dharavi are in quarantine. Kiran Dighavkar, assistant municipal commissioner of the GNorth ward, which contains the slum sprawl, said, “We move out anyone suspected of Covid-19 from their home if we notice that isolation at home is not possible. We expect cases to reduce in the coming days as we have screened thousands of locals and high-risk contacts have been identified and tested.”
Officials said the BMC has directed that those from the slum experiencing symptoms can on their own shift to institutional quarantine centres set up in the area, where doctors are available round the clock. The civic body has set up a 300-bed quarantine facility at the Rajiv Gandhi District Sports Complex, and a 700-bed isolation facility at the Dharavi Transit Camp School. The BMC has acquired 130 rooms in 11 lodges in the area and has arranged for a hundred more beds in a community hall.
Meanwhile, Mahim has reported three more Covid-19 cases, taking the area’s total to 71, while Dadar reported four more cases (from areas like SK Bhole Road and D'Silva Road), taking its case load to 54.
