Shopkeeper arrested for selling fake forms to migrant workers for facilitating travel during lockdown
A 38-year-old shopkeeper was arrested for allegedly duping migrant labourers by selling them a fake form after claiming that it would facilitate their travel to their natives states during the lockdown, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Rajeev, is a resident of Punjabi Colony in Narela. He was selling the fake forms at Rs 20 each and misleading the migrants, they said.

Noida: 13 new COVID-19 cases, total 192; 7 discharged
Thirteen people, including two healthcare workers and a baby, tested positive for coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar on Tuesday, taking the total tally in the district to 192, officials said.
Also, seven people, including a child, were discharged from hospitals after their successful treatment for COVID-19, as the number of cured people in the district reached 109, they said.

Singapore minister records message in Tamil and Bengali for migrant workers
Singapore's Minister for Communications and Information S Iswaran has released a video message in Tamil and Bengali to address the concerns of foreign migrant workers, who are the worst-hit by the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
So far, 19,410 cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the country, most of whom are foreign workers from India and Bangladesh.

33 pc recovery rate among coronavirus patients in Uttar Pradesh, says CM Adityanath
The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in Uttar Pradesh is 33 per cent which is higher than the national average, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Tuesday.
The chief minister was speaking at a review meeting with senior officers where he directed them to take measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus among policemen and medical teams, and increase testing facilities.

WHO urges countries to investigate early COVID-19 cases
The World Health Organization said on Tuesday that a report that COVID-19 had emerged in December in France, sooner than previously thought, was “not surprising”, and urged countries to investigate any other early suspicious cases.
The disease later identified as COVID-19 was first reported by Chinese authorities to the WHO on 31 December and was not previously believed to have spread to Europe until January.

Wipro to convert Pune office into COVID-19 hospital
Wipro has decided to convert one of its Pune offices into a 450-bed intermediary care COVID-19 hospital in four weeks.
The bengaluru-headquartered tech services company has signed a pact with the Maharashtra government to repurpose its office facility at Hinjewadi, a sprawling IT hub in the city.
Wipro said it would hand over the facility to the Maharashtra government by May 30.

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Tuesday appealed to migrant labourers stranded in the state due to COVID-19 lockdown not to leave for their home towns and assured them work, pointing to easing of norms allowing construction and industrial activities in non-red zones.

FICCI suggests resuming operations of downstream industries to minimise COVID-19 impact on cement sector
Industry body FICCI on Tuesday suggested the government to resume operations of downstream industries like real estate and construction of roads and highways to minimise the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on cement sector.
According to rating agency ICRA, cement demand is expected to decline by 10-12 per cent in the current fiscal year as construction activities across the country have come to a standstill since March 25 due to the ongoing lockdown.

French doctors: First virus case may have been in December
French scientists say they may have identified a possible case of the new coronavirus dating back to December — about a month before the first cases were officially confirmed in Europe.
In a study published in the International Journal of Microbial Agents, doctors at a hospital north of Paris reviewed retrospective samples of 14 patients treated for atypical pneumonia between early December and mid-January. PepsiCo India funded COVID-19 testing kits start reaching laboratories
PepsiCo India on Tuesday said the first batch of test kits for coronavirus funded by it has started reaching testing sites across India.
These kits are being procured and distributed by Foundation for Innovative New Diagnostics (FIND) with funding from PepsiCo India and have been approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the company said in a statement.
PepsiCo India had volunteered to support the scale up of India's COVID-19 testing capacity through support provided to FIND.
