VILLUPURAM: A father-son duo were arrested in
Villupuram district of
Tamil Nadu on Tuesday for murdering two of their relatives.
The accused have been identified as N Muthukrishnan, 50, of Thachampattu village near Gingee and his son, M Thangamani, 20. They were into farming and owned a piece of land.
The deceased have been identified as N Ealumalai, 48, and K Murugan, 45.
Muthukrishnan and Ealumalai, who were brothers, divided 59 cents of their ancestral land equally among themselves. However, a pathway between their properties was always under dispute.
On Tuesday, when Ealumalai and his brother-in-law, Murugan, used the pathway to transport hay, Muthukrishnan intercepted them and picked up an argument stating that the path belonged to him. The argument escalated. In a fit of rage, Muthukrishnan stabbed Ealumalai and Murugan. Thangamani helped his father in the
murder. Later, the two fled the spot.
Local villagers rushed the deceased to Gingee Government Hospital on two-wheelers. However, doctors declared them “dead on arrival.”
Jeevaraj Manikandan, inspector (in charge) of Anandhapuram
police station, said, “The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Villupuram Government Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. Based on a complaint filed by family members of the Ealumalai, a case was registered against Muthukrishnan and Thangamani. They were arrested. Further investigations were on.”
Villupuram SP S Jayakumar and other police personnel inspected the crime spot.
